1,200-acre cultural park
Balboa Park has been around since 1868. Admission is free but some of the park attractions may cost, but no matter where you go you’re guaranteed to have a good time. The park started as 1400 acres of land known as ‘City Park’. The first steps in the parks beautification were made in 1892. In 2001 San Diego Natural History Museum opened after reconstruction to the original building. Today the park has 19 amazing museums, nine performing arts, nine attractions, 19 beautiful gardens, 11 recreations, five play areas, and 14 delicious restaurants.

First Franciscan mission in the area
San Diego de Alcalá is the first of the 21 California missions, and marks the birthplace of Christianity in the West Coast. This is a remarkable and significant historical site that provides an understanding and appreciation of the beginning of Catholicism. The Mission was founded in 1769 and serves as a parish church and cultural center for everyone. In 1931 it was rebuilt to what architects determine what was the 1813 church must have looked.
