The avocado is the state fruit of California, as this state produces more avocados than any other in the nation. San Diego County grows 60% of those, and the Hass avocado was born in nearby La Habra Heights. The avocado’s creamy texture and healthy fat have made it a desirable fruit, whether in guacamole, smashed on toast, or all by itself. Here are six San Diego eateries where you can get your avocado fix.

Pokez

Restaurant, Mexican, Vegan, Vegetarian

Casual, colorful Pokez serves Mexican fare with plenty of options for both carnivores and vegetarians. For max avocado, get the Green Tacos: avocado and cucumber, wrapped in lettuce. You can also get a guacamole taco.

Thai Village

Restaurant, Thai, Asian, Vegetarian

Customers to this Pacific Beach Thai restaurant have a large selection of dishes to choose from, but they often rave about the Avocado Curry, which consists of avocado, bell peppers, basil and eggplant in a green curry sauce. The creaminess of the avocado works well in this slightly sweet dish. Need protein? Add a little shrimp or chicken. You can top it off with some coconut ice cream.

Snoice

Ice Cream Parlour, Dessert Shop, Ice Cream, Dessert, Coffee, Asian

Snoice specializes in Taiwanese- and Filipino-inspired desserts, such as shaved snow, halo-halo, and boba tea. Their creamy avocado snow is made with avocados and fresh milk, and may be paired with toppings such as fresh fruit, boba, or cereal.

Isabel’s Cantina

Restaurant, Fusion, Mexican, Spanish

At Isabel’s Cantina, Chef Isabel Cruz blends Latin and Asian influences to create a strong menu of healthy, fresh choices. Diners will find avocado in dishes all over the menu. You can, of course, order guacamole, but you’ll also find it in ahi wontons and healthful brown rice bowls, or served with tacos and tamales. During breakfast and lunch, you can get the avocado scramble, with eggs and jack cheese, which you can fold into a soft flour tortilla.

Bread and Cie

Bakery, Cafe, Coffee, American

There’s no greater place to get avocado toast than at Bread and Cie, an artisan bakery specializing in different types of bread, pastries, focaccia and other freshly baked treats. Their avocado toast comes on Levain bread with poached eggs and olive oil—the perfect light breakfast or lunch.

Oscar’s Mexican Seafood

Restaurant, Mexican, Seafood

Oscar’s Mexican Seafood is often busy, as many people return again and again for the affordable and delicious Mexican fare. They don’t skimp on the avocado here, offering thick, fresh slices with many of their dishes. Try the Surf & Turf taco, where avocado tops skirt steak and shrimp or go for their namesake with a fish or octopus offering. For something fresh and light, you must try the ceviches.
