The sight of stalls packed high with local produce, the smell of delicious fresh food and the sound of traders selling their wares – there is nothing quite like a farmers’ market. As they take place nearly every day of the week in a variety of locations around the Long Beach area, it should be no problem picking the market for you. Here is Culture Trip’s list of the best farmers’ markets to visit during your stay.

1. Long Beach Southeast Farmers Market

Held every Sunday at the Alamitos Bay Marina, the Long Beach Southeast Farmers Market is perfect if you’re looking for growers offering something special. With more than 40 producers providing mostly organic items, the market also has several specialized products, including Asian mushrooms, hot sauces and bison meats. It takes place in the marina’s car park and has a great view of the quay.

2. Lakewood Center Farmers Market

Taking place every Saturday in the nearby city of Lakewood, the Lakewood Center Farmers Market is known for its fair prices and friendly vendors. While the market might not be the biggest on the list, it’s growing week on week. Along with the usual offering of local produce, it also has a great selection of seafood, artisan foods and flowers for sale in its spacious surroundings.

3. Bixby Park Farmers Market

The Bixby Park Farmers Market is open all year round (it takes place on Tuesday from 3pm to 7pm and Saturday from 10am to 3pm) and is among the most popular in Long Beach. It features a wide variety of vendors offering all the local produce you could want. Outside its excellent selection of veggies and food, the market also has several vendors selling artisan goods, including clothing, handmade jewelry and beauty products.

4. Farmers Marketplace of Long Beach

The Farmers Marketplace of Long Beach is a charming market located just off Spring Street and Clark Avenue. The market has vendors selling produce and some of the area’s best baked goods, such as bread, cookies, and muffins. It also hosts contests, such as monthly raffles.

5. Marine Stadium Farmers Market

A family favorite and free to enter, the Marine Stadium Farmers Market is a great trip out for the little ones. With the same excellent produce that you would expect from the area, the market also has some delicious food vendors selling a wide variety of dishes, from garlic fires to teriyaki bowls. Local musicians play for the guests, and there is even a clown giving out free balloon animals to the kids.

6. Downtown Long Beach Farmers Market

Found inside the City Shopping Plaza, the Downtown Long Beach Farmers Market is a great destination for a relaxed Friday-morning visit. It’s arranged by Goodveg, a well-meaning company dedicated to supporting smaller local farms and market communities. It has a substantial selection of veggies and fruits vendors and features some delicious food, including freshly roasted corn and some of Southern California’s best tamales.
