Dandelion Chocolate is a chocolate factory located in the Mission District. The workshop has been open since 2010, roasting, cracking, sorting, winnowing, grinding, conching, and tempering small batches of beans that are then molded and packaged into bars by hand. In addition to offering a taste of the highest quality chocolate around, Dandelion also gives visitors a chance to see the work that goes into making it, with factory tours as well as a variety of classes and events available on site.

2. Papabubble

Candy Store, American

Papabubble is an artisanal candy store located in the Hayes Valley neighborhood. There, you will find the shelves lined with handcrafted candies, and you can even watch the candy-making process in person. People rave about the marshmallows – made from scratch on site – which come in unique flavors like peanut butter fudge and champagne. The candy is made in small batches with high quality ingredients, and you can even order personalized candies for special occasions. As a bonus, the store sells boba, too.

3. The Candy Store

Bar, Candy Store, American

The Candy Store is located just off of Polk Street in the Russian Hill neighborhood, serving up a huge collection of candies like licorice, sours, gummies, and chocolates. The boutique has walls lined with classic candy jars and the interior is packed with an international selection of both traditional and innovative sweets. If you’re planning an event, The Candy Store can offer you a selection of services like a bar-style set up of candy jars, candy carts, and custom party favors.

5. Chocolate Covered

Candy Store, American

Chocolate Covered is the original San Francisco chocolate boutique, standing out in Noe Valley with its bright-blue exterior. Inside, you will discover a larger and more unique selection of chocolate than you could ever have dreamed up. The chocolates come from both local and global candy makers, ranging across over 800 types of chocolate from 19 different countries, and many of the bars come from manufacturers embracing American ‘bean-to-bar’ techniques. The best seller here is an unbranded, creamy-but-nutty pistachio nut bar from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Plus, you can order custom handmade gift boxes decorated with Japanese art papers, San Francisco landmarks, or custom photos.

For a taste of something unique, try the California Earthquake Fudge or the Sour Sassy Taffy. In addition to this sweets selection, Z Cioccolato hosts chocolate-making workshops for parties, reunions, team building events, and more – there, you can learn how to make turtles, peanut butter cups, hay stacks, and pretzel rods, all of which you can take home and eat to your heart’s content.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
