Picture of Catrina Pang
Updated: 9 February 2017
Located right next to the bustling downtown and midtown parts of Sacramento, New Era Park is a cozy residential neighborhood in California’s capital city known mostly for its old Victorian homes, bike trails, skateboard park, and popular B Street Theater. Though it doesn’t have much to offer in the way of restaurants or nightlife directly within the neighborhood limits, it’s not hard to find quality dining establishments just minutes away. If you’re in the area and looking for some amazing places to grab a bite to eat, you’ll want to check out the following list.

Sampino’s Towne Foods

In a cozy little place with a lovely fenced patio out front, Sampino’s Towne Foods serves up amazing homemade pastas and sauces, delicious sandwiches, and fresh salads to both locals and visitors with a love for authentic Italian cuisine. Inside, guests find several glass display cases full of Italian foods, meats, and cheeses, as well as loaves of bread sitting on the counter and wines lining the wall, setting the mood for an incredible Italian meal. Out on the patio, beautiful white linen-covered tables complete with vibrant red placemats create the perfect environment for visitors to sit and watch people go by, all while enjoying popular dishes like the meatball sandwich, sampanini, fresh lasagna, or Le Rustique, a sandwich composed of Prosciutto de Parma, melted brie, caramelized onions, balsamic vinegar, and garlic aioli on delicious bread. The restaurant is mostly a lunch or early dinner kind of place, but if you’re looking for an exceptional dining experience, you won’t want to miss out on the incredible eight course dinners they offer once a month on special Friday nights. The dinner menu changes each month but is always exquisite and requires a reservation to be made in advance.

Sandra Dee’s Bar-B-Que & Seafood

If you’ve got a hankering for good old Southern comfort food when in the Sacramento area, Sandra Dee’s Bar-B-Que & Seafood is the place to go. The restaurant is set in a quaint 1925 brick building painted with the owners’ favorite musicians, and the lovely scenery is eclipsed only by the ambiance created within. Sandra Dee’s is a family-owned establishment from top to bottom, with Sandra Dee and her husband Jeffrey working in the kitchen, as well as both their sons and two daughters along with one nephew in employment. The delicious food always comes out hot with plenty of flavor and seasoning, and the portion sizes are big enough for two meals. Fans of the classic chicken and waffles especially love Sandra Dee’s version, which comes with decadent red velvet waffles. They even have a full bar with a fantastic drinks selection and a great Happy Hour, all-you-can-eat rib tips on Wednesdays, service that is always friendly and efficient, and sometimes guests have the opportunity to chat with the wonderful Sandra Dee herself.
