A Night In Oakland’s Jack London Neighborhood

Aubrey Douglass

Located south of Interstate 880 along the Bay’s waterfront sits the Jack London district of Oakland. This once-industrial neighborhood has become a commercial attraction, luring tourists with its urban, waterside appeal and a multitude of nightlife prospects.

The Jack London neighborhood, also known as the Loft District, gets its name from Jack London Square, the center of the neighborhood’s commercial heart and the original focus of Oakland’s port operation. Occupying a significant stretch of Oakland’s waterfront, the Jack London district was originally a warehouse and industrial zone containing few commercial attractions or housing. Today, Jack London has transformed completely, becoming home to well-known eateries and entertainment options.

Yoshi’s Oakland

One of Jack London’s most popular spots is Yoshi’s Oakland. This Japanese restaurant doubles as a jazz bar, hosting popular musicians and serving delicious sushi. Patrons have the option to enjoy dinner in a separate section before taking their reserved show seats or enjoy drinks and food alongside the performance. Founded in 1972 in North Berkeley, Yoshi’s has transformed into the best jazz venue in the Bay Area. Check out their website before your visit to view the calendar and book your tickets.
