With 300 days of sunshine a year, Phoenix, Arizona, is a prime destination for outdoor recreation, and the city and surrounding desert have great bike trails, whatever your level of experience. Here are the best independent spots in the Valley to get set up with some high-quality wheels to take on your own adventure.

1. Exhale Bikes

Sports Center

Found on Bell Road in North Phoenix, Exhale Bikes is a friendly shop offering a selection of road bikes, mountain bikes and comfort bikes. It’s truly a one-stop shop, as all rentals come with a complimentary helmet, flat tire repair kit and small cable lock. Experienced shop assistants are eager to point you in the direction of the nearest mountain trails or riding pathways. Most of the bikes here cost around $35 per day.

2. Bicycle Cellar

A haven for bike commuters and cycling enthusiasts, Bicycle Cellar provides excellent service and rentals in Tempe. Its vast selection of rental bikes includes city bikes for a relaxing pedal along Tempe Town Lake, heavy-duty wheels designed for camping trips and even cargo bikes so that you can take your little ones along for the ride. Truly dedicated to sustainability and healthy living, Bicycle Cellar is housed in an eco-friendly building near the light rail.

3. Sonoran Outdoor Adventures

If you’re seeking an unforgettable ride in Arizona’s stunning Sonoran Desert, Sonoran Outdoor Adventures provides exciting fat tire and electric bike tours so that you can experience the area’s expansive trail system. And the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down: you can even sign up for a night ride to see the nocturnal side of the desert. If a tour isn’t your thing, you can also rent a fat tire bike and design your own journey. Sonoran Outdoor Adventures can also deliver bikes within the Phoenix metropolitan area.

4. Spartan Rides
