The view at Sunset Da Mona Lisa speaks for itself in just the same way as the portrait after which it’s named. This romantic spot with cantilevered, multi-leveled dining areas is best visited just before sunset, but reservations are highly recommended. Choose from their exquisite menu of Italian dishes, such as salmon gnocchi, or perhaps splurge on the seven-course taster menu with wine pairing. Round it all off with the light and airy chocolate soufflé. For a romantic evening out in a restaurant with an enchanting atmosphere, Sunset Da Mona Lisa is the place to be.

This deceptively rustic restaurant is nestled on the cliffs high above the crashing waves below, which provide the atmospheric soundtrack to your evening. El Farallón is another outstanding option for a romantic dinner for two, or an end-of-holiday splurge. Local fishermen deliver the fresh seafood on a daily basis where it sits on ice until ordered later that evening. Check out the rather quaint blackboard that is labelled up each evening with the catch of the day, if you’re lacking meal inspiration – although that’s unlikely. Try and get an oceanfront table or visit the recently opened Champagne Terrace.

This sleekly decorated restaurant-bar is part of the Palmilla Resort and features an incredibly beautiful central bar over which hangs a minimal, laser-cut light feature. The attention to detail is reflected in both the drinks and food served here. Again, we recommend asking for cliff-side seats to soak up the view and the classy-casual ambiance. Try out a made-to-order sangria and listen to the live music that is often playing at Agua before settling down to the Mediterranean-influenced Mexican menu.

A quirky, popular, and perhaps the first truly waterfront entry on our list so far, The Container Eatery is located at the San José Marina and offers a unique concept. Literally converted from an old shipping container, this is a spot growing in popularity due to the power of word of mouth, so try and make it there ASAP before it becomes everyone’s go-to location. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner on the rustic wooden deck and linger over their famous mojito.

The presentation of the freshest of the fresh seafood dishes at Cocina del Mar, the signature restaurant of the Esperanza Resort, is as impressive as the ocean view. The Argentinian chef takes inspiration from all sorts of North, Central, and South American cuisines, which come together to create the truly innovative and contemporary menu that is served up at this atmospheric cliff side restaurant. The Peruvian quinoa is a highly recommended dish. As always, try and book a cliff-side table for the best view.

A more casual option than some of the above-mentioned, Hacienda Cocina y Cantina is located right off the beach, next to the marina and serves up simple, but tasty, classic Mexican dishes. Try out the seafood pozole for a twist on the ordinarily available types of pozole, or the ceviche verde for a refreshing lunchtime treat. If you’re feeling indulgent, accompany your meal with a delicious cocktail and follow it up with some sugary churros and dipping sauces. Reservations are recommended, so try and request one of the colorfully-cushioned pod tables.
