The perfect moment during a holiday in Cancun comes when you find yourself with a margarita in your hands, looking at a backdrop of the white sands and turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean. The Mexican drink par excellence requires fresh ingredients, and dexterity in combining them. Discover the restaurants and bars in Cancun to seek out if you’re looking for the best margaritas.

1. Taco y Tequila

Located in Isla Mall, one of the best shopping centers in Cancun, there’s a spot that serves the best margaritas on the island. Taco y Tequila, the perfect place to have lunch on a shopping expedition, offers you margaritas made from local fresh ingredients and premium tequilas, served in a giant cup. You can drink a classic margarita, feel the fresh breeze from the lagoon on your face, and enjoy the spectacle of the cook making handmade tortillas. Try their specialty, a watermelon margarita.

2. La Parrilla

Restaurant, Mexican, Vegetarian

La Parrilla is a Cancun restaurant that is loved by locals. The architecture, folklore, and colorful decorations all combine to bring you the most authentic Mexican ambience you can find on the island. There’s nothing better than drinking a classic margarita while listening to traditional mariachi music, and you can do both here. If you’re in the mood for something a bit different, try their mango and strawberry margaritas. We recommend arriving early to avoid a long wait for a table.

3. Taco Grill

Located in Isla Mall, Taco Grill serves great-tasting typical Mexican food at good prices and with fast service. They offer two delicious margaritas: one is the traditional classic, served in a large glass frosted with salt. The other is the chamoy margarita, made of chamoy (a Mexican sweet and spicy sauce), tequila, mango, tamarind, orange juice, a touch of chile, and lemon. It sounds too spicy, but it’s actually a refreshing cocktail with a great local flavor.

4. Ritz Carlton Cancún

The lavish Ritz Carlton Cancun has signature beverages inspired by local flavors. They offer two specialty margaritas: The Margarita Cancun is made of tequila, agave, lemon, tangerine, and black tea served with ice and a slice of lemon in a cup frosted with salt; 100-Dollar Margarita is made with tequila, Grand Marnier and candied sugar. Try either of these on your next visit and you won’t be disappointed.

5. La Destilería

Bar, Mexican, Vegetarian

A traditional, elegant, and festive Mexican cantina (bar), the entrance is ‘prohibited to those with bad mood, ill temper or looking for quarrels’, as the sign in the entrance says. Enjoy margaritas with your friends by the shore of Nichupté Lagoon, watching the sunset and listening to the cheerful mariachi music. La Destilería is a beautiful replica of a tequila distillery, the food is delicious and the walls are covered with typical sayings and stories. We recommend the Margarita Tamarindo.

6. Casa Tequila

Bar, Restaurant, Mexican, Vegetarian

By Avenue Kukulcan, away from the noise of downtown and the nightclubs, Casa Tequila is a restaurant bar and boutique offering a wide variety of tequila, plus authentic Mexican and Mayan food. You can do some tequila tasting and enjoy the live entertainment and mariachis. Margaritas are also huge here, and there’s a huge range. Look for the sombreros (Mexican hats) they have for customers to use for selfies.

7. Mocambo Mexican Seafood & Lobster

Restaurant, Seafood, Mexican

In the heart of the hotel zone, Mocambo Mexican Seafood & Lobster has an unbeatable sea view. The food is really good and is served in huge quantities. The beach here has the crystal waters and white sands you’ve been dreaming of, so you can go for a morning swim and by lunchtime you’ll ready to visit the restaurant, located right by the beach. Try the Margarita Cancun or the Margarita Mocambo.

8. La Vaquita

Bar, Mexican, Beer

If you want to drink and dance, this is the place for you. The best margaritas in Cancun’s bar zone are to be found at La Vaquita, a must-visit place if you’re in a party mood. We recommend the Bebeleche Strawberry Margarita.
