Alberto Korda

Korda is the man responsible for one of the most famous and iconic images in history: the shot of a young Che Guevara that the photographer called “Guerrillero Heroico” (Heroic Warrior). The photographer also shot around 55,000 images of the Revolutionary period, an amazing documentary of turbulent times.

Eduardo Garcia

Street photographer Garcia has been working since 2009, mainly focusing on social issues. His series “HOME” was a finalist at the Magnum Photography Awards 2016, and he continues to receive international recognition for his work. Another good resource for photographers in search of inspiration.

Alfredo Ramos

After training as a geographer, Ramos began working as an artist and photographer. He now splits his time between Berlin and Havana, and his work is more conceptual than documentary. This pair of artists have been working together since 1994 as an “artist team.” Their work has been featured in exhibitions around the world, and Nelson is currently director of the National Gallery of Photography in Cuba.

Pavel Acosta

Acosta is another artist who uses photography on a regular basis. He is famous for his work using materials stolen from the walls of buildings in Havana due to a lack of access to materials. These days Acosta lives in the US, and he continues to produce work using “stolen” materials.

Alejandro Perez

Perez is one of the most famous names in contemporary Cuban photography, thanks to a varied portfolio of photo and video work. Alongside his photography, he has also directed music videos for Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias and a long list of international musical artists. In fact if you’ve seen music videos filmed in Havana in the past few years, chances are Perez was the man behind them.
