Prince Edward Island may be famous as the setting for Anne of Green Gables, but it has much more to offer than its Anne-related tourist attractions. For one thing, this picturesque Canadian province is home to some stellar wineries and distilleries – from the Myriad View Artisan Distillery to the Rossignol Estate Winery. Be sure to visit at least one of these five spots during your trip to PEI.

Myriad View Artisan Distillery Inc.

Winery

In homage to PEI’s prohibition days, Myriad View is the producer of Canada’s first legal moonshine. It also distills vodka, gin, rum, brandy, whiskey, pastis and Dandelion Shine, a moonshine flavoured with dandelions and aged in used whiskey barrels. Stop by this beautiful spot, overlooking the water on the Northumberland Strait, for free tastings and tours.

Matos was born from a passion for wine, an international influence and a love of family. This family-owned winery and distillery was opened in 2011 by Jim Matos and his family and has been earning both national and international awards since its first year. Born and raised on a small island off of Portugal, Jim chose PEI as the spot for his winery for both its unique growing conditions and the similarities the island has to his home. Stop by Matos in St. Catherines to browse its selection of wines and spirits.

Deep Roots Distillery

Distillery

What began as a family-owned hobby orchard in 1990 and transitioned to an organic farm in 2005 eventually became an organic distillery in 2014, after owner Mike Beamish thought running a distillery would make for a fun retirement project. Today the distillery produces a variety of unique spirits, including spiced apple liqueur, maple liqueur, absinthe, and camerise, an antioxidant-rich haskap liqueur. Deep Roots offers seasonal tours complete with walks through the orchard and, of course, samplings!

Rossignol Estate Winery

Rossignol Estate Winery has much more than just good wine. In addition to a variety of table wines, fruit wines and liqueurs, visitors can enjoy touring the farm winery, vineyard and adjoining art gallery. Add in a panoramic view of the Northumberland Strait, and you’ve got yourself a wonderful place to spend an afternoon.

Prince Edward Distillery

Distillery

Prince Edward Distillery utilizes some of PEI’s best-known produce – potatoes and blueberries – to create its products. It is the first and only maker of vodka distilled from potatoes, and the first PEI maker of wild blueberry vodka. Stop by the distillery to take a tour and sample its unique spirits.
