If you’re hoping to spend a little of your downtime getting your mitts on Calgary’s finest goods, you’ve come to the right place. From traditional farmers’ markets to vintage emporiums, our local insiders recommend their favourite markets, both indoors and outdoors.

1. Inglewood Night Market

Market

The Inglewood Night Market is a favorite local event, held every Friday evening. More than 100 vendors set up stalls offering vintage clothing (in the market for ’20s frocks?), antiques (think detailed jewelry boxes) and artisan eats (fancy cream puffs and macarons?). If the baked goods aren’t enough to fill your belly, fret not: a whole horde of food trucks selling everything from hot dogs to dim sum will be at your beck and call. For entertainment, there are live-music performances from local singer-songwriters, dancers and bands. Recommended by local insider Stuart Forster

2. Bearspaw Farmers’ Market

Farmers' Market, Authentic

If you’d like a more bucolic backdrop to your shopping, head to Bearspaw Farmers’ Market, which runs weekly throughout the summer. It’s located on the edge of the city and offers gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains. A whole variety of farm-fresh goodies beckon, including beef jerky, charcuterie, jams, honey and raspberry cakes. Recommended by local insider Stuart Forster

3. Flowers at the Market

Market

Flowers at the Market is the one-stop shop for Canadian-grown flowers. Fresh bouquets are cut and shipped form British Columbia the day before each market opens, and those passing through can choose from a selection of European-inspired bouquets. Flowers at the Market also cover weddings, sympathy flowers and corporate events. Recommended by local insider Yamila Godoy

4. Crossroad Market

Market

For a snapshot of what local life truly looks like, the Crossroads Market is your best bet. This farmers’ market has been a fixture in Calgary for more than 25 years, and today draws in more than a million visitors annually. Although it runs seasonally, the market boasts around 150 vendors, with a wide range of handcrafted goodies and artisanal eats. So if you want to get your hands on frozen blueberry yogurt, collectible classics and customized moccasins, this is your spot. Recommended by local insider Yamila Godoy

5. Lina’s Italian Market and Café

Market

Lina’s Italian Market & Café is the best place in Calgary to get your hands on fresh Italian cheese, meat, bread and pasta. If you’re not much of a chef and don’t want to prepare a meal, don’t worry: the market is also home to a café selling frittatas, pizzas and bagels. Foodies, rejoice: you certainly won’t go hungry here. Recommended by local insider Coco Hiu Tung
