If you’re looking for great, locally brewed beer, here’s our run down of the best breweries to hit up while in Calgary.

Village Brewery, Calgary

Village Brewery

As its name suggests, the real selling point of Village Brewery is its community feel, which extends into true support for local artists and craftspeople. Now brewing six different craft beers in-house, the brewery produces something to suit a range of different palates, from the triple berry kolsch ‘Triplet’ to the sturdier India ‘Alberta Black Ale’. The place is open for guided tours every Saturday and also hires out its tasting room for private tasting events.
Opening Hours: 10am-4.30pm Monday to Friday

Big Rock

Founded by beer lover Ed McNally over 30 years ago, Big Rock is a traditional brewery that prioritizes great tasting brews over any business shortcuts or profit generating techniques. The result is a truly personal addition to the industry, which remains independently owned to this day, allowing it to stay close to its original mission statement. 60 minute guided tours of the site include endless extra information from resident ‘beerologists’ as well as tastings of their most popular brews.

Wild Rose

Inspired by the ‘strong and free’ wild spirit of Alberta, Wild Rose is a brewery that grounds itself strongly in local techniques and natural ingredients. Only available in its home province, this is a great brewery for those looking to try something new and unusual. As well as guided tours, you can also try their Tap Room, a brew pub voted Calgary’s favorite for six years running.
Opening Hours: 11am-11pm daily

Boxer Beer, produced by the Minhas Brewery

Minhas Micro Brewery

Market, Restaurant, Beer

The largest craft brewery in the city, Minhas Micro Brewery is a family-owned business founded by brother and sister duo Ravinder and Manjit. Having originally started with liquor production, the company moved into the beer market in 2002, which is when their flagship brand Mountain Crest Classic Lager was created. Tours of the brewery demonstrate the basics of beer production, but you can also opt to sample their brews in Pizza Brew, their award-winning restaurant.
Opening Hours: 11.30am-7pm Tuesday to Thursday, 11.30am-8.30pm Friday to Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday

Last Best Brewing & Distilling

Pub, Pub Grub

Part of the Bearhill Brewing Family, Last Best is a brew pub that focuses on promoting Alberta’s importance in Canada’s national craft beer and brewing industries. Aiming to create a link between the local community and ‘beer culture’, the owners have grounded their business in a monthly social club based on beer tasting and appreciation. Their own in-house brews are centered around five signature ales, as well as some other more temporary varieties, like a ‘caramel latte’ beer with velvety notes of local Fratello coffee.
Opening Hours: 11am-1am Sunday to Thursday, 11am-2am Friday and Saturday
