Just How Popular is the Middle East Film and Comic Con?
The Middle East Film and Comic Con is a celebration of all things pop culture, and is the perfect event for all science fiction and comic book lovers. The convention is the biggest of its kind in the region and has been going since 2012, becoming increasingly popular every year. This is the ideal space for people to see some of their favorite celebrities, dress up in cosplay and revel in film and geek culture.
The Middle East Film and Comic Con (MEFCC) takes place every year, since 2012, during the month of April in the Dubai World Trade Center. The venue is popular for holding big exhibitions such as GITEX and more. Naturally, as with any other Comic Con around the world, MEFCC welcomes visitors to dress up as their favorite characters from movies, comics and TV shows. Cosplay has become increasingly popular globally and this goes for Dubai too during the event.
Over the past half a decade, the MEFCC has brought some major celebrities to Dubai and allowed fans to meet them and even sometimes get autographs. Perhaps some of the biggest names to attend the event have been Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his role as Sir Jamie Lannister in Game of Thrones in 2016; Anthony Mackie, well renowned for being one of the Avengers in 2017 and Emmy winner; as well as Star Trek actor William Shatner in 2015. This selections of superstars has put the Middle Eastern event on the map.
As it is the case with all other Comic Cons worldwide, MEFCC has a lot more to offer than just celebrities and people in Cosplay. This is an opportunity for fans to purchase exclusive merchandise, attend workshops, check out special exhibitions, watch never-seen before trailers, meet some of the biggest illustrators and artists in the industry and more. The 2017 MEFCC even had Dodgeball and Teen Wolf Basketball Tournaments – ensuring that everyone was having a blast. Naturally, a Cosplay competition always takes place, encouraging visitors to make their costumes as elaborate as possible. The Middle East Film and Comic Con 2018 will take place from April 5th-7th, a Facebook event providing the latest updates has already been created and fans are already getting excited!
