The liveliness of a bar scene can reveal a significant amount about a city and its people. Glasgow, with its dazzling selection, is no stranger to fun. The trendy Merchant City part of town is inundated with swanky drinking establishments, and here we round up the best.

Tellers Bar & Brasserie is a playground of endless opportunity. With lots of bling and decadent to the core, kicking back in one of the many cocoon-like seats with drink in hand is the perfect post-work pick-me-up. It’s a visual feast, with over-sized lights and dramatic windows. Situated inside the ultra pukka Corinthian, the infinite supply of bubbles, cocktails and delightful nibbles attracts a cool crowd.

2. Bar Gandolfi

Bar, Cafe, Contemporary, European, British

The more vivacious sibling of esteemed local institution Café Gandolfi, Bar Gandolfi is just as arty and equally as hip. The exposed tiles, trendy little spotlights and quirky carved wooden furniture is only rivalled by the exquisite work of local artists brightening up the walls. Perfect for days that demand Bloody Marys, fountains of wine, craft cocktails and magnums of champagne, this little firecracker deserves a standing ovation. Lazy lunches and cosy evening chats never looked so enticing. The regular acoustic music sessions are pretty good as well.

3. Gin 71

Bar, Contemporary, European, British

Gin lovers of the world unite, stop whatever you’re doing immediately and congregate at Gin71 in Merchant City. This bar, an homage to Gin, is inundated with every type of gin imaginable. The infinite supply of numerous tonics, strategically dimmed lighting, mesmerising atmosphere, table service and double 50ml measures, all add to the flawless factor. Whether sloe, citrus, aged, spiced or weird and wonderful, there’s literally a gin for everyone. The garnishes, which include rose petals, coffee, bramble, orange and star anise are the definition of fun and the meticulously put together menu makes ordering a dream. Five Stars.

A welcomed little dose of France and Italy in Glasgow, Boudoir is a wine bar with both charm and atmosphere. Bold pops of purple and chic furnishings create a wildly romantic vibe, with the wine list stealing the show. Whether white, red, rose or sparkling, there’s nothing more satisfying than swirling a glass in one hand while picking at a charcuterie platter with the other. Never underestimate the live entertainment programme for a night to remember!

If only home could be this glorious. Effortlessly chic and decked out to the nines with an industrial sleek interior, Bar Home is a fantastic venue. It gives you the best of both worlds, as weekdays entail chilled mutterings by candlelight, whereas the weekends put the volume up with the string of resident guest DJs. The food is both tasty and comforting, while the drinks menu is an absolute blast. Try every one of ‘The 7 Deadly Gins’, or enjoy a jug of coconut margarita in this ridiculously trendy den.

6. Boteco Do Brasil

Pub, Tapas, Brazilian, British

Just like Brazil, Boteco Do Brasil is graced with vibrant colours, beautiful sounds, endless laughter and vibes tailored to swaying the night away. A mirror of the traditional botecos (lively Brazilian neighbourhood bars) of Rio de Janeiro, the urban street-style tapas flows and the music is on point. A laugh and a half, trying a caipirinha, their signature drink, is a must, as is sampling any of the enticing cocktails for that matter. It’s impossible not to shake that tail feather here.

7. The Social

Beautiful interiors, fairy lights, private booths, a killer drinks menu and open airy feel all adds to the allure of this desirable haunt. The perfect place for an epic night out, The Social can’t help but bring the most reclusive folk out of their shells! The Teapot Sharers (cocktails for four enclosed in a teapot) are genius and the al fresco option is perfectly suited to those who love people watching outside. A happening spot for a cracking night out.
