Headed to Liverpool on a budget? You may be strapped for cash, but that doesn’t mean you have to resign yourself to bunking up in a stranger-filled dorm, staying somewhere soulless or being far from attractions like the Albert Dock, Tate Liverpool and the Museum of Liverpool. We’ve found pocket-friendly places to do this UK port city in style – one is even good enough for Liverpool FC manager Jürgen Klopp. Read on for the best cheap hotels in Liverpool – all bookable with Culture Trip.

Hope Street Hotel, for celeb-spotting

This Georgian Quarter boutique hotel has welcomed plenty of celebs over the years – Condoleezza Rice, Lady Gaga and Jürgen Klopp, to name but a very random few – but it’s also eminently affordable for the rest of us mere mortals. Even the standard king rooms have the same high design as the rooftop suite (minus the two-person spa tub), and include luxurious little perks like Nespresso coffee machines, robes, slippers and bathrooms with sweet-smelling REN toiletries that you’re encouraged to take home.

Lock and Key, for boutique design

You’ll have to be quick to bag a reservation at this budget hotel in Liverpool, which takes over a Georgian townhouse in the Ropewalks District. The 14 bedrooms all punch well above their price bracket with decadent designs that blend period style and contemporary comforts: think bespoke velvet headboards, scallop-shaped cocktail chairs, gleaming brass accents and dark painted woodwork. The restaurant/bar is a bit of a find, too, serving up all-day food and drink at very reasonable rates.

The Resident Liverpool, for self-catering savings

Rates may be low at this 19th-century cork warehouse-turned-aparthotel, but standards are high. Staff consistently get rave reviews for their helpful service, and bedrooms are well-maintained, spotlessly clean and have mini kitchens, just in case you want to stretch the budget further with a spot of self-catering. This cheap Liverpool hotel also earns a big tick in the location box: in the heart of the Ropewalks District, it is surrounded by bars and restaurants, some of which offer discounts for Resident guests.

Pullman Liverpool, for affordable luxury

Despite its prime waterfront position in South Docks – close to the Liverpool Arena, the Albert Dock and the Baltic Triangle, this four-star hotel offers surprisingly cheap accommodation in Liverpool. And very smart it is, too – expect such luxuries as Nespresso machines, Bose docking stations and C.O. Bigelow toiletries. Design-nods to the area’s maritime heritage include giant images of the old docks and light fittings made from ship’s lanterns on pulleys.

Hard Days Night Hotel, for Beatles fans

If you’re a firm Fab Four fan, you’ll be thrilled to find you also get specially commissioned Beatles artworks on the walls and a handy location just round the corner from Mathew Street and the iconic Cavern Club. Budget hotels in Liverpool don’t get much better than this!

The interior designers went big and bold in their use of colour at this Liverpool budget hotel: each room rocks a different rainbow shade that’s carried through from murals featuring oversized images of cotton spools to vibrant cushions, rugs and coordinated tiling in the bathrooms.
