Hip Apartments in Liverpool You’ll Want to Call Home

In the heart of the lively Ropewalks district, the Resident is an 1800s warehouse converted into smart self-catering apartments. In-the-know staff can advise on local attractions, and rooms run the range from compact doubles to large split-level suites, all with mini-kitchens that include a microwave and a fridge, which can be pre-stocked with goodies ready for your arrival. Alternatively, if you’re feeling lazy, you can order in from a room-service menu of drinks and snacks, with discounted prices for members.

Sharing the Resident’s Ropewalks location is EPIC Apart Hotel just next door, another warehouse conversion filled with slickly designed apartments. Furnished in classic neutral shades, with the odd colourful cushion or statement lamp to liven things up, they have larger kitchen areas, with dining benches or tables as well as cooking facilities. A good choice for groups are the larger two- and three-bedroom apartments, sleeping eight or 10 people.

From Liverpool Lime Street station, it’s a 10-minute walk to this grand Neoclassical building, which once served as HQ for the regional transport authority. The 151 rooms, spread over six floors, can be booked individually like normal hotel rooms or configured into two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments, complete with a kitchenette, lounge and dining area. Groups are welcome (as are dogs), and on-site facilities include a bar and brasserie, where the menu ticks off sandwiches, salads, pasta and grilled meats.

This all-suite hotel is part of Liverpool’s regenerated docklands area, handily placed for attending events at the Arena or visiting the attractions of Albert Dock. Its 132 studios and one-bedroom apartments have a welcoming, home-from-home feel, with well-equipped kitchens, laundry facilities and a small fitness centre, plus social evenings where you can hang with other guests. There’s no in-house restaurant, but you do get a 24-hour pantry stocked with beer, wine and ready meals.

Despite the name, this Staycity property (one of two in Liverpool) isn’t actually by the water’s edge, but it’s pretty damn close. You just have to walk a couple of minutes to reach the Pier Head and the “Three Graces” – as the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building are also called. Converted from a 1950s office building, Staycity has 212 self-catering rooms, all kitted out in the brand’s signature style, with pops of bright yellow against a muted grey-and-white backdrop, plus a handy 24-hour shop, where you can pick up snacks, pizzas, drinks and breakfast.

A major player in the European aparthotels market, the Adagio brand was originally aimed at longer-stay business visitors but has turned out to be just as popular with in-the-know travellers, too. The location here is central (in the old Lewis’s department store building, midway between Lime Street station and the Ropewalks district), and the 126 comfortable studios and apartments have large photos of the Liverpool skyline above beds plus well-equipped kitchens sectioned off from the living and sleeping areas.

On the southern fringe of the Ropewalks district, and a 5-minute walk from Duke Street Food & Drink Market, is this new-build block of purpose-built flats, all with separate living/dining and sleeping areas, full kitchen facilities and smartly tiled bathrooms. Even the smallest are generous in size, and, by the time you get up to penthouse level, you’ll have loads of space to rattle around in, plus a roof terrace with potted plants and garden furniture to relax on, too.

The first UK aparthotel from Aussie-brand Quest scores highly on all fronts, from its location (on Church Street, within easy reach of all the city-centre attractions) to the design (apartments are bright and bang up to date with air con, smart TVs and kitchen facilities). The hotel has got some nifty ideas on the facilities front, too, like providing room service via Deliveroo, so you can get takeouts from local restaurants charged to your room and delivered to your door.
