This highly regarded restaurant is hidden in a little cul-de-sac just north of Tottenham Court Road Underground station. Hakkasan Hanway Place is the original in what is now a set of global restaurants. Expect top quality food and a price tag reflecting this; Hakkasan’s signature dishes include Peking duck with caviar and braised dried whole Japanese abalone. On Sundays, there is also a special dim sum menu with seasonal cocktails, accompanied by a DJ.

Yalla Yalla is a relaxing place to rest your feet after some hardcore shopping. Yalla Yalla serves good value, tasty Beirut street food accompanied by friendly service. Sketch is worth visiting for its appearance alone; there are few London restaurants with such quirky design and rotating art exhibitions in the foyer. On Sketch’s top floor is two Michelin-starred restaurant The Lecture Room & Library. Dishes are intricate French creations, such as saddle of venison marinated with cumin, served with red cabbage and cassis marmalade, roasted pear chestnut ice cream and grapefruit gel. The wine list is equally impressive and has been awarded the ‘Best Award for Excellence’ by Wine Spectator and AA Guide’s ‘Best UK Wine List.’

Heddon Street is a restaurant oasis at the lower end of Regent Street. Momo takes its pride of place in this square of great places to eat. Momo has a big celebrity following and was voted ‘Most Consistently Excellent’ at the Tatler Restaurant Awards 2015. Alongside the traditional tagines and couscous served here there are more unusual North African dishes. One such example is wood pigeon pastilla, a fine pastry filled with spiced pigeon and served with orange marmalade. Perched above Regent Street, Veeraswamy is one of England’s oldest Indian restaurants. The great grandson of an English general and an Indian princess founded the restaurant in 1926. The menu is based on classical cuisine from different regions of India. Food inspiration is taken from the streets as well as the palaces. Expect well-executed classics such as Kerala prawn curry and duck vindaloo plus a small selection of vegetarian dishes.
