Just north of non-stop Oxford Street, Fitzrovia, in central London, is a mix of tourists, office workers and those escaping the heaving crowds. All enjoy a large selection of drinking spots including Victorian classics, modern gastropubs and even the odd celebrity passion project. To help you find your watering hole, here’s our pick of the best boozers in Fitzrovia.

Did you know – Culture Trip now does bookable, small-group trips? Pick from authentic, immersive Epic Trips, compact and action-packed Mini Trips and sparkling, expansive Sailing Trips.

Bradley’s Spanish Bar

Although not as glitzy as you’d expect in this neck of the woods, Bradley’s Spanish Bar is a firm favourite with the locals. Spread over two floors, the gem of the joint is a vintage jukebox with an eclectic assortment of records. There’s also a selection of crowd-pleasing beers on tap at a reasonable price. Despite the name, Bradley’s doesn’t do tapas. Or much food at all for that matter. Traditional British pub snacks – crisps and nuts – are about it. Just eat before you go.

The Fitzroy Tavern, Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia, City of Westminster, Greater London, England, United Kingdom.

Augustus John, the Welsh artist, once said: “If you haven’t visited the Fitzroy, you haven’t visited London.” Heed his words. Converted into a pub during the reign of Queen Victoria, this traditional boozer has been delighting patrons for decades. Now run by the Samuel Smith Brewery, their award-winning restoration, which started in 2015, returned the boozer to its Victorian glory. Guests choose from the craft and house beers on tap.

The Crown & Sceptre

Crown and Sceptre Public House London England

One of the many slick gastropubs found in Fitzrovia, the Crown & Sceptre stands out thanks to its fantastic selection of beers and wines. Perfect for a post-work drink, the atmosphere is refined but relaxed and never so busy that you won’t be able to have a conversation. The food menu boasts a mix of British classics with some seasonal twists. Get there early to bag a button back sofa.

Lore of the Land

Owned and run by UK filmmaker Guy Ritchie, the Lore of the Land is one of the newer additions to the Fitzrovia pub scene. Its interior is decadently designed with traditional art taking up every bit of wall space. For all its extravagance, it’s the basics that Lore of the Land does well. It has an expertly curated selection of beers including Ritchie’s very own, Gritchie Ale.

The King & Queen

A traditional boozer through and through, the King & Queen has been a Fitzrovia staple for decades. It’s where Bob Dylan had his first UK gig – check out the picture next to the bar. And that legacy continues with a monthly folk night in the function room upstairs. Behind the counter is a mix of bottled beers, draught lagers and five ales from hand-pulled pumps.

The Green Man

The Green Man sets itself apart from your traditional Fitzrovia boozer by focusing on cider. Ask the staff to make a recommendation. Beer lovers are well catered for by a range of traditional English brews and craft ales. Beloved by the local office workers, The Green Man is a great place to relax on a Friday evening and soak up the jovial atmosphere. The underrated kitchen also serves a delicious selection of vegan dishes throughout the day.
