Even before the ‘world’s best pizza’ came to the neighbourhood, Stoke Newington was already something of a haven for the Italian dish. While the Neapolitan pizzeria is no longer in operation, the offering of esablishments serving up delicious slices in the area has only got better.

1. Apollo

Apollo came to life in 2015 after its founders decided that if they couldn’t find authentic Neapolitan pizza in their neighbourhood that they’d better just make it themselves. They brought an oven over from Naples and established a supply of tomatoes and mozzarella direct from the city, which gets combined with a handful of other toppings like Calabrian salami, guanciale and raddichio. Apollo also keeps things local by serving salad from Hackney Growing Communities, beer brewed by Five Points and ice cream from Nonna’s Gelato.

2. Franco Manca

Franco Manca is one of the biggest pizza chains in London but they’ve managed to expand across the city without compromising on the quality of their pizzas. The slow-rising, blast-cooked dough results in a soft crust and it comes topped with the best English and Italian cheeses and cured meats. Nothing goes better with a pizza than a glass of one of their organic wines.

3. Il Bacio

Running for over twenty years, Il Bacio has earned the distinction of being the oldest Italian restaurant in Stoke Newington. The family run joint serves up a range of Italian classics including cured meats, pastas, grilled dishes and pizzas. With over 25 different varieties, from four cheese to aubergine and Sardinian salami, to pepperoni and jalapeno, you won’t struggle to find the perfect pizza.

4. Trattoria Da Luigi

Trattoria Da Luigi sets itself apart from other Italian restaurants in the area thanks to its rustic Sardinian food. Their pizzas, all named after famous footballers, feature produce from the region like the seafood topped Del Piero and the Buffon with Sardinian sausage, ham and onion. You can get food delivered but it’s such a cosy and charming restaurant that it’s worth taking the time to eat in.
