The Montpelier

Pub, Bar, British, $
With weekly DJ nights, a sunny front terrace and its very own 30-seat cinema, The Montpelier is a neighbourhood favourite for good reason. The independent pub makes a point of nurturing creative talent from the local community, with local DJs and jazz musicians performing at regular club nights. Seafood features heavily on the menu, and the place serves up a decent Sunday roast, too.

Bussey Rooftop Bar

Bar, Cocktails, $

The Bussey Building has lively rooftop bars in the summer

While the Bussey Building is famous for its club nights (did someone say South London Soul Train?!), its rooftop bar rivals nearby Frank’s Cafe as the place to be during the warmer months. It’s the highest drinking spot in Peckham, offering a tropical escape from the city below with palm trees and twinkling lights.

Social

Bar, Beer, Cocktails, Pastries
Part of the artsy, creative complex Copeland Park is this casual bar and sunny outdoor terrace, serving coffee by day and beers by night. A rotating chef residency means there’s always some exciting new grub to tuck into as well. With a number of events happening in Copeland Park on a regular basis – flea markets, gigs, food festivals and open studios – this is the perfect spot to grab a pre- or post-event drink.

Brick Brewery

Craft Ale Bar, Beer

Brick Brewery started in a garden shed

Is there anything more quintessentially hipster London than a craft brewery under a railway arch? Possibly not, but here’s the thing: Brick Brewery has heart. Owner Ian Stewart started brewing beers in a humble garden shed, and he opened Brick after being encouraged by his friends to take his venture full time. Though it might sound cliché, Brick is truly an independent, local gem – each ale, lager and IPA is named after Peckham.

The Four Quarters

Bar, Restaurant, British, American, $
Relive your childhood at The Four Quarters, which is home to a selection of arcade classics such as Ms Pac-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, along with old-school consoles upstairs. When you need a break, visit The Confession Box, a lively basement cocktail bar and club that’s open Thursday through Saturday. Anyone who has a fondness for craft beer, whiskey and the ’80s will enjoy this place.

Prince of Peckham

Pub, Jerk, $

The Prince of Peckham offers special discounts and events throughout the week

Established in 2017, making it a fairly new addition to Peckham’s bar scene, the Prince of Peckham prides itself on being “a pub for South London, by South London”. True to its word, the pub offers special discounts every Monday exclusively to local hospitality workers, and Thursday’s open-mic night showcases local talent. There are also hip-hop nights, excellent jerk chicken and unruly after-parties.

Beer Rebellion

Craft Ale Bar, Beer, $
As you might expect, Beer Rebellion lives up to its name, with a great selection of local brews from across London and the UK. Take your craft beer to the sunny front terrace and enjoy people-watching on bustling Queen’s Road. Plus, Beer Rebellion welcomes punters to BYOF (bring your own food), so you can take advantage of the area’s many superb takeaways. Win-win.
