The Trafalgar Tavern is a Georgian landmark and local institution. Not much has changed over the years; it’s a community-focused pub that’s also very popular with tourists, mainly for views over the river from its floor-to-ceiling Regency windows. Guests have been enjoying whitebait fresh from the Thames for hundreds of years, and you still can, washed down with a local pint. Inside, you’ll find plenty of naval and maritime relics, plus wooden floorboards and gorgeous high ceilings.

4. Goddard's at Greenwich

Pie, mash and liquor have been one of London’s most traditional meals, being served prevalently through era’s gone by. For a classic handmade dish, from recipes that have been passed through the family-run business since 1890, Goddards at Greenwich is a vintage pub boasting 100 seats over two floors — and exactly where you need to be! There is an extensive range of savoury pies including traditional minced beef, steak and kidney, chicken and ham, and vegetarian options, all made with fresh ingredients. Diners have the option to eat in the restaurant, or if you would rather eat in the comfort of your own home, they also do take away.

5. Zaibatsu

Restaurant, Japanese, Sushi

You’d be forgiven for missing Zaibatsu when walking along Trafalgar Road, but at this unassuming takeaway restaurant, the food is anything but unremarkable. There’s a sizeable menu of Asian fusion dishes, including sushi, finely cut sashimi, crisp salads, noodles and sizzling tempura. Particularly recommended is the omakase sashimi selection, a seven-piece assortment of sashimi made with the freshest fish from the day’s catch and served as tender slices alongside a soya dip.

6. Champagne + Fromage

Bistro, Restaurant, French
