V&H serves delicious, filling breakfasts until 3pm. This cafe uses high quality ingredients to make a truly delicious breakfast. V&H make their own baked beans with their own special recipe, and all their sausages are 100% pork, gluten free, and are hand made by a local butcher. The bread used at V&H is delivered every morning freshly baked, as are their croissants from the local Hove Patisserie. You’ll find a good selection of breakfast and brunch options, from the filling V&H Brunch (eggs, local smoked streaky bacon, gluten free pork sausage, homemade baked beans, sautéed mushrooms, roasted vine tomatoes, sourdough toast, all for £9.25) to sautéed chestnut mushrooms on sourdough bread with a poached egg. This place offers excellent Fairtrade coffee, or if you’re looking for a healthier way to wake up, try one of their fresh, energising juices.

The Hidden Pantry is a family-run, vintage style cafe. Taking inspiration from their Grandma Ethel’s pantry from when they were children, the Hidden Pantry serves breakfast, and an all-day brunch. There is great vintage feel to it, with floral wallpaper, worn and mismatch furniture, and vintage memorabilia. The breakfast menu is quite simple, offering mostly savoury dishes such as croissant with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and chives. The all-day brunch menu offers bigger meals such as the sausage fry up, with egg, sausage, potato rosti, mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes, baked beans, and toast. The Pantry only uses the best ingredients: organic, free-range eggs from Rookery farm are used in all cooking, and fresh bread from the nearby Home Cakery is served everyday. You’ll find a strong cup of coffee at the Pantry too, with organic and fairtrade beans from the Union Roastery used.

I Gigi

I Gigi is a general store selling a range of individual and beautiful pieces of furniture, clothes, gifts, and decoration pieces. This chic store also has a cafe on the first floor, serving freshly cooked breakfasts. The I Gigi cafe has a beautiful layout, as owners Alex and Zoe are experts in interior design. The cafe is small and intimate, with a clean, light design featuring white walls, wooden furniture and big windows. The breakfast menu is small, and best if you’re only looking for a small bite to eat. Organic ingredients are used, and you can choose from classic dippy eggs to an antioxidant-packed Acai smoothie. You’ll find a good choice of coffees and Teapig teas, or for a treat on a cold morning, try the Hot Choc-O Lait: a block of Belgian dark or milk chocolate on a stick, served with milk and whipped cream.
