V&H serves delicious, filling breakfasts until 3pm. This cafe uses high quality ingredients to make a truly delicious breakfast. V&H make their own baked beans with their own special recipe, and all their sausages are 100% pork, gluten free, and are hand made by a local butcher. The bread used at V&H is delivered every morning freshly baked, as are their croissants from the local Hove Patisserie. You’ll find a good selection of breakfast and brunch options, from the filling V&H Brunch (eggs, local smoked streaky bacon, gluten free pork sausage, homemade baked beans, sautéed mushrooms, roasted vine tomatoes, sourdough toast, all for £9.25) to sautéed chestnut mushrooms on sourdough bread with a poached egg. This place offers excellent Fairtrade coffee, or if you’re looking for a healthier way to wake up, try one of their fresh, energising juices.

The Hidden Pantry is a family-run, vintage style cafe. Taking inspiration from their Grandma Ethel’s pantry from when they were children, the Hidden Pantry serves breakfast, and an all-day brunch. There is great vintage feel to it, with floral wallpaper, worn and mismatch furniture, and vintage memorabilia. The breakfast menu is quite simple, offering mostly savoury dishes such as croissant with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and chives. The all-day brunch menu offers bigger meals such as the sausage fry up, with egg, sausage, potato rosti, mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes, baked beans, and toast. The Pantry only uses the best ingredients: organic, free-range eggs from Rookery farm are used in all cooking, and fresh bread from the nearby Home Cakery is served everyday. You’ll find a strong cup of coffee at the Pantry too, with organic and fairtrade beans from the Union Roastery used.

If you’re looking for a filling and simple breakfast, the Garden Cafe might just be for you. Situated in St Ann’s Well Gardens, you have the choice between sitting outside and enjoying your surroundings when the weather is good, or savoring your breakfast inside the cafe itself. The staff are friendly and helpful, and you’ll often see groups and families at The Garden Cafe. Try the Garden Deluxe for something a bit more special: scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, grilled tomatoes, and rocket, on a toasted bagel. All ingredients are fresh and all dishes are homemade. You can stay in the Gardens and take a stroll through the park, play some tennis, or wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy the conservation area.

4. Treacle and Co

Treacle and Co

Treacle and Co is a small, cosy cake shop on Church Road. You’ll see a stunning range of cakes on display, but Treacle and Co actually serve great brunch too. You’ll only be able to have brunch here on Sunday, but it’ll be worth the wait when you see what’s on offer. The brunch menu gives a great mix of savoury and sweet dishes, and you can order something smaller, or a full English breakfast, depending on your appetite. Try the full breakfast which comes with crispy bacon, sausages, black pudding, eggs, roasted cherry tomatoes and hot, buttered toast. Or if you’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, go for the vanilla pancake stack with a choice of different toppings. Treacle and Co is the perfect setting for a cosy yet stylish Sunday brunch.

The cafe itself has a simple, modern black and white design, with large windows looking out at Church Street and like the view, the breakfast menu changes seasonally. Try something a little different like the Mexican Huevos Rancheros, with chorizo, avocado, salsa, fried eggs, and sour cream, all crammed into a tortilla. Or try the delicious sweet French toast with caramelised banana. For that morning kick you’ll find a good cup of coffee at Baked, along with a selection of teas.
