6 Recommended Restaurants in Bolton, Greater Manchester
Bolton may not be known as a culinary hotspot, but if you find yourself in the northern town, there are a few excellent places to dine, if you know where to look. One of the best things about the local restaurant scene is the diversity of cuisines; offering excellent Indian, Thai, Greek and Italian food, if you know where to look.
Tapaz Ristorante
Bar, Restaurant, Tapas, Spanish, Mediterranean, Portuguese
Whether you’re in the mood for a delicious seafood paella or you’re seeking a collection of authentic tapas dishes, Tapaz Ristorante offers a little slice of Spain in the heart of Bolton. The Mediterranean menu has a big focus on seafood with traditional tapas tastes, also offering a variety of simpler main courses suitable for the less adventurous. Our advice is to book a table with a group of friends and order off the tapas menu to share and taste a little bit of everything.
Sunar Gaw
Restaurant, Indian, Vegetarian, Vegan
There’s plenty of Indian restaurants in and around Bolton, but Sunar Gaw is the place that keeps the locals coming back for me. Offering authentic Indian cuisine with a variety of specialities alongside classic favourites, this is the place for both refined dining and grabbing a takeaway if you’d rather eat at home. Ensure that you book a table, as it can get busy during peak hours at the weekends.
Sokrates Greek Taverna
Restaurant, Greek, British, Vegetarian
Based in Horwich, on the edge of Bolton, Sokrates focuses on Greek and Cypriot cuisine in traditional tavern surroundings. There’s a wide variety of main courses, with an equal emphasis on meat, fish and vegetarian dishes – but it’s the traditional mezze banquet that we recommend ordering. This seemingly never-ending stream of food arrives in the centre of the table, designed for sharing among diners and creating more of a social aspect to the meal.
Prezzo
Pizzeria, Restaurant, Italian, Fast Food, Vegetarian, Seafood
One of the best places to sample an authentic Italian pizza in Bolton, Prezzo may have only recently opened its doors but its wood burning pizza oven and cavernous yet elegant décor is already famed across the town centre. The delicious pizzas with a vast variety of toppings may be what draw in the crowds, but there’s also an impressive selection of pasta, meat and fish dishes to choose from. Don’t forget to order from their extensive wine menu to complete the experience.
La Scala
Restaurant, Italian
A previous winner of the Bolton News Restaurant of the Year award, La Scala is renowned for being one of the best places to dine on special occasions. It may be located out of the city centre, in West Houghton, but this Italian restaurant is well worth the journey. Known for its fresh and delicious seafood, we recommend ordering one of the many seafood pasta or main course dishes to truly appreciate the Italian flavours.
Ciao Napoli
Restaurant, Italian, Mediterranean, Fast Food, Vegetarian
This hidden gem is located in the centre of Bolton but has somehow remained relatively undiscovered. Known as much for their steaks (Thursday night is steak night) as for their authentic Mediterranean menu, they pride themselves on offering a diverse range of dishes all utilising the freshest ingredients. The pizza here is good, but we’d recommend ordered off the extensive pasta menu or sampling one of their filling main courses.
