If you’re considering a romantic city break, Bristol may not be the first place that springs to mind. However, the city has plenty of perfect date spots to offer. If you’re heading to Bristol as a couple, be sure that the following is on your to-do list.

Head to Clifton Suspension Bridge

No matter how hard you try, you won’t find a better view of the city than the one from the Clifton Suspension Bridge. If you don’t believe us, simply ask the locals. This is the go-to spot to take a deep breath and admire the gorgeous surrounding scenery from up high. Whether you choose to go in the day and enjoy an ice cream as you enjoy a walk, or at night, when the bridge is beautifully lit up, romance is guaranteed at this spot. Thank us later…

Have fancy cocktails

Dine in style

Thanks to Bristol’s many (many!) restaurants, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to places to dine on your date night. Our advice? Take a look at our article on the best fine-fining restaurants in the city and get booking that table for two!

Wander around the harbour

The locals will tell you that the harbour is the place to be when the sun comes out. With its picturesque surroundings and waterside bars aplenty, spending time with your loved one here is practically perfect.

Get arty

Heading to an art gallery or museum has been the go-to date plan since… forever! So, luckily, Bristol has some of the best art spaces in the country. You and your significant other can spend your day hopping from gallery to gallery, discussing the brilliant work on display. Romantic, right?

Watch a show

Bristol is home to the famous Hippodrome Theatre, showcasing the best theatrical performances from around the world. Book a couple of tickets in advance, sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Go a little wild

Want a good day date in Bristol? Why not head to the zoo? Home to over 80 species, including a baby gorilla that was born in the zoo in 2016, you will have a fabulous time wandering through the grounds and being amazed by the animals. There’s sure to be plenty of conversation starters here if you’re stuck for first-date chat.

Head to the woods

If you’re an outdoorsy couple, you’ll love traipsing through beautiful Leigh Woods. With plenty of different walks to do, this is suitable for all different fitness levels. Simply want to stroll? You can totally do that too! The area really is a place of natural beauty. Pack a picnic and explore the forest.

Get crazy

We know, we know. Crazy golf for a romantic date seems a little tacky, right? Wrong. Not when it’s jungle themed! Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf in Cabot Circus has guaranteed laughs written all over it. With two 18-hole courses and a bunch of cool special effects, this is a golf course like no other.

Swim outdoors

If you think it isn’t warm enough for an outdoor swimming session, think again. Clifton Lido is a heated outdoor pool that you can visit at any time of year. There’s even a hot tub! Stop for a spot of lunch in the adjoined bistro mid-swim. This is pretty much as romantic as it gets.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
