Bristol is a great city to visit on a budget, whether you want to see the Clifton Suspension Bridge or Banksy’s street art. A relatively young population, booming cultural scene and student-friendly nightlife mean you can get the full experience without breaking the bank. That extends to hotels – there are many which offer comfort, style and leisure for an agreeable price tag. Here are the best cheap hotels in Bristol, bookable on Culture Trip.

Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel

The Mercure Grand has stood proudly in Bristol’s Old City quarter for 150 years, playing host to the likes of Winston Churchill and the Rolling Stones. The interior combines the building’s history with the emergent independent art scene, with more than 500 pieces of commissioned street art peppered throughout the rooms and hallways. As a bonus, the location places you within easy reach of landmarks like Castle Park and the Old Vic.

Brooks

Sometimes a hotel is just a hotel, and other times it’s the part of the trip you’re most excited to tell your friends about, or parade on Instagram. Brooks is the latter – this guest house establishment is a collection of chic rooms and three airstream caravans on the roof of the building. It sits right on the doorstep of Old Town and St Nicholas Market, with amenities including an open-plan kitchen where you’ll be served a locally sourced breakfast, and if you opt for a caravan, some of the best views anywhere in the city.

The Berkeley Square Hotel

Billed as the city’s first art hotel, and recognised as one of the best budget stays not only in Bristol but nationwide, Berkeley Square has plenty of appeal. The 42-room townhouse rotates local artwork and sits just off Park Street, right next to the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery. Guests are given complimentary membership to the Square, their private members’ club and restaurant. Visitors can expect a decanter of local sherry waiting for them in their room.

The Kyle Blue

Cheap hotels in Bristol are one thing, but are you looking for a unique property? You could do a lot worse than the Kyle Blue. It is the only bookable houseboat on Bristol harbour, with six cabins which have a spartan, yet charming, aesthetic and a lounge area on the upper deck. There’s no restaurant or bar, but the position on the harbour places you within easy reach of the city centre, as well as key attractions such as the M Shed museum.

Future Inn Bristol

Sitting right opposite the Cabot Circus shopping centre, Future Inn is about as central as it gets when it comes to cheap hotels in Bristol. Functionality and affordability are prioritised here, but not at the expense of comfort. Like its sister hotels in Cardiff and Plymouth, Future Inn Bristol feels very much like a short stay destination, but it still offers food in the form of its Chophouse restaurant and bar, all with easy access to central Bristol.

Village Hotel

Hotel

Village Hotel is perfect for anyone who prizes peace and quiet above all else, provided they’re willing to travel slightly out of the city. It’s located in Filton, some seven miles (11km) north of the centre. But for the extra distance guests are rewarded with a pool, gym, workspace, restaurant, Starbucks and rooms outfitted with Dyson hair dryers, Amazon Echos and free wifi. If you like getting the most out of the hours you’ve booked, Village is a great option.

The Rodney Hotel

This small, 31-room hotel is situated in Clifton Village, one of the trendiest parts of Bristol and home to such attractions as Goldney Hall and the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Rooms are comfortable and come complete with a bowl of fresh fruit. The Rodney’s walled garden bar makes it a great summer option, plus it also houses No. 4 – an AA Rosette winning restaurant.

Lodge at Bristol

Another option on the fringes of the city, Lodge at Bristol is a family-oriented affair, with handsome countryside surroundings, spacious rooms and close proximity to Bristol Zoo. The Black Sheep pub provides a warm, traditional dining experience and the city centre is a mere 20-minute drive away. You can also easily reach Bath and the Cotswolds if you’re after a more tranquil experience to balance out your time experiencing Bristol.
