Science Fiction Bokhandeln
With an incredibly knowledgeable staff, SF Bokhandeln is the go-to place for everything sci-fi. While there are plenty of books there are also movies, games, T.V. show sets, and plenty more, all of which are tested by the employees. Perfect for sci-fi lovers or anyone looking for something different.

The Book Corner
The Book Corner is Gothenburg’s very popular international bookstore, with the city’s largest collection of books in English, French, Italian, Spanish, and German, for both kids and grown-ups. The shop also sells textbooks, is happy to order whatever you want, and has a large selection of Swedish books translated into English and other languages.

Bokskåpet
Open for more than a decade, Bokskåpet is the perfect place to discover both old and new favorites, as well as gifts. The focus is on children and young adults, although there is a nice little selection of books for grown-ups. They also have a great staff who are happy to offer their personal recommendations.

Antikvariat Röde Orm
This secondhand bookshop is something of a legend, not just in Gothenburg, but well beyond. While you’ll find plenty of bestsellers, Röde Orm really shines when it comes to sourcing those hard to find titles that may be out of print or just difficult to get ahold of. The shop is happy to buy books as well, which might be just the ticket as you travel—sell something you’ve already read and pick up something new at the same time.

Clara Bookstore
When it opened in 2000, Clara Bookstore originally stocked books in a variety of languages, but these days it’s all English all the time. While you’ll find pretty much anything you could dream of here (or ask them to order it if you can’t), the shop specializes in art/design, crime, and classic novels. There is also a nice selection of art posters and postcards.

Utbildningsstaden
The focus might be textbooks, but there are plenty of other options here, with books in a variety of languages, such as English, French, German, and Spanish. The selection of classic novels is particularly good so perhaps this is the time to finally read Proust or the Russian greats.
