Despite the fact that there isn’t a specialist vegetarian restaurant in Ronda, non-meat eaters won’t be short of places to eat: this stunningly-appointed town is home to many establishments with veggie-friendly menu items. Read on to discover the best of them.

Al Zahara is a cosy and atmospheric Moroccan restaurant in the heart of the Mercadillo side of Ronda (north of the El Tajo Gorge). Although the menu is not exclusively vegetarian, there are normally no-meat options available, such as veggie tangines and hummus with flatbread. If you can’t immediately see anything suitable, ask the waiting staff and the kitchen should be able to rustle something up for you.

Biopicnic

If you’re looking for a light and fast vegetarian breakfast or lunch, check out Biopicnic. A takeway joint in the beautiful old Moorish quarter of Ronda, it offers plenty of meat-free wraps, salads and sandwiches. There are sometimes a couple of tables out on the cobbled little street outside, but this is more for those who want a snack while on the go. Meat options also served.

Cafe de Agata

Cafe, Restaurant, European

Located just a few minutes’ stroll away from Ronda‘s historic bullring, Cafe de Agata is one of the most popular spots in town for breakfast and meriena, the Spanish equivalent of afternoon tea. The veggie offering is impressive for either meal: non-carnivores can choose from several meat free crepes – including a delicous Nutella option – salads, homemade cakes and fresh fruit juices. Also boasts a sunny terrace.

Toro Tapas

Bar, Restaurant, Spanish

A tapas joint with the word “bull” in its name might not seem like the best place to come for a vegetarian meal. However, this lively eatery offers several meat-free options, the most popular of which is a flavour-packed mushroom risotto. Veggies at Toro Tapas can also tuck into the classic patatas bravas – fried potato chunks in spicy tomato sauce. The wine list is varied and well-priced.

Tragatá

Restaurant, Mediterranean, Spanish, Fusion

The brainchild of respected Catalan chef Benito Gómez, Tragatá offers one of the most exciting and classy dining experiences in Ronda. The menu, which features several vegetarian platos, is an imaginative mix of traditional Spanish cooking and international dishes. Available to non meat-eaters are options such as Spanish potato salad, raf tomatoes with mozzarella and pesto and the finest white asparagus with a ravigote sauce.

Pizzeria Nonno Peppe

Pizzeria, Restaurant, Italian

OK – it might not exactly be a traditional Andalusian eatery, but for the sheer range of vegetarian options available, this popular Italian eatery deserves to feature here. With many happy customers reporting that the pizzas are the best to be found in Ronda, Nonno Peppe is not just about quantity, either. Veggies have around thirty meat-free dishes from which to choose, including classics such as the margarita pizza and a good range of pasta options.
