The 9 Best Beer Gardens in Belgrade, Serbia

The sun is high in the sky and the sweat is making a strong effort to take over the brows of Belgrade. Time to head to a beer garden, right? There are few better spots in the summer than a shaded outdoor space with a fresh supply of pivo. These are the best in the Serbian capital.

It does exactly what it says on the tin. From the minds of the Belgrade Beer Fest, this garden located at Ada Ciganlija ticks more than enough boxes for the prospective summer boozer. Plenty of space, a huge selection of beers, food options and a nearby lake combine to create something legitimately special. It’ll be packed, because it absolutely deserves to be.

Samo Pivo

Not your ordinary beer garden, to be honest. Samo Pivo is Serbian for ‘beer only’, which takes care of the beer side of things, and the garden is in fact a concrete terrace overlooking a decidedly grey neighbourhood. It doesn’t sound like the sort of view to seek out, but trust us on this one. A delightful spot with a real mishmash of furniture, this is one of the city’s best spots for beer lovers.

Zaokret

Bar, Cafe, Contemporary

Take a seat in the garden with some of Belgrades finest
@ Aleksandra Nikolic / Zaokret

Zaokret is hugely popular with creative types all over the city, and for good reason. It occupies some prime real estate at Cetinjska, and has brought together all the elements required for an excellent productive space. The beer is great, the music is low key enough to provide an ambient hum, the decor is extra impetus and there also happens to be plenty of space to go round. If the day happens to be a write-off, there are hours of decent beers available.

KC Grad

Bar, Cafe, Nightclub, Contemporary

Spring is arguably the best time to visit the Serbian capital

Zaokret is at the forefront of the Cetinjska revolution that has taken up the mantle of the endangered Savamala district, but that isn’t to say the entire riverfront is lost to corruption and greed. KC Grad soldiers on obdurately, and the iconic, innovative hub is as strong as ever. When the sun is shining, the garden is a splendid place to bed in for the day, putting together art surrounded by its manifestation.

Ljutić

Bar, Cafe, Contemporary

Opened in the backyard of a wonderfully elegant but depressingly neglected Art Nouveau house, Ljutić remains one of the best kept secrets in the capital city. What it lacks in continuity it more than makes up in charm and character, and that is unlikely to change any time soon. One of the most convivial atmospheres in town awaits on Stevana Sremca.

Dogma Brewery

Bar, Craft Ale Bar, Pub, Contemporary

One of the finest beer drinking spots in the city

A short walk from Ada Ciganlija sits the headquarters of Dogma, one of the finest craft brewers in the entire region. The tap room is now open for enjoyment, and work continues to enhance the space as much as possible. Anyone looking to combine fantastic beer with an afternoon in the sun and a relaxed atmosphere should load up the Car:Go account and get out here, pronto.

Passengers Bar

Bar, Cafe, Contemporary

One of Belgrades more underrated gardens

Just down the street from Hedonist Hostel lies Passengers Bar, although you might not notice from the street itself. The whole operation looks somewhat nonchalant, until you take the time to head in and all the way through to the impressively energetic and lively garden. Student Square and Knez Mihailova are mere minutes away, but this could quite easily be a popular beer garden far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Blaznavac Kafe-bar

Bar, Cafe, Contemporary

Named after Milivoje Blaznavac (or more specifically, his moustache), this Dorćol bar has carved out a name for itself as a premier destination no matter the time of day. We’ll plump for an afternoon in the chaotic aesthetics of the garden however, with its patch of land that has more neon and eccentricity crammed into it than you might believe possible. The beer isn’t half bad either.

Gastrobar 20/44

Bar, Cafe, Gastropub, Nightclub, Contemporary

20/44 has finally made its way onto land

From the owners of arguably the only boat club worth thinking about comes this splendid little bar towards the end of Skadarlija, further enhancing the already embedded legacy of the great 20/44. The cafe has been around for less than a year, but the importance of a trusted name shows in the social atmosphere and mass of customers. Don’t let that put you off heading here to work however, as this is a bar opened by creative individuals with creative types in mind.
