Evenings in St Petersburg are usually pretty cold, so even if you are travelling in summer, it is great to know a few tea places to warm up with this hot drink. The Chinese, Japanese and Indian tea traditions have found new homes in St Petersburg with the opening of multiple tea rooms. Here are our favourites.

Cafe Kashmir

Cafe, Tea Room, European, Asian, Indian

This tea room is focused on the Indian tea culture, representing the cuisine and tradition of the immense region. At Cafe Kashmir you can try famous masala chai or choose from around 80 different kinds of tea. They offer some very exotic tea-based drinks from other countries, too.

Tea Room

Cafe, Tea Room, European, Asian

This is the place to go for a full scale tea ceremony. A ceremony here lasts for about two hours and you will learn about different kinds of tea, brewing rules and types of tea ware, as well as health effects of regular tea drinking. This is a relaxing and calm place and is a great place to spend an afternoon.

Mickey & Monkeys

Cafe, Dessert, Seafood, Tea

A secret sushi bar, Mickey & Monkeys is also a great place to have a cup of tea. With or without sushi, you will have lots of options to choose from. It offers over 30 tea varieties, and each is flavourful and unique. Mickey & Monkeys is a great place to relax, have a light Japanese dinner, a creative shake or even a drink that is a little harder than the average tea.

Teura Cafe

Cafe, Tea Room, Vegetarian, Tea

This café is named after Paul Gauguin’s Tahitian muse, Theura. The atmosphere of the place is relaxing and welcoming. The tea menu is pretty impressive; you can choose between different varieties of red, white, green, black, puer, roiboos and other teas. The teas are served according to traditional ceremony rules.

Taiyaki

Cafe, Tea Room, Japanese

This Asian bakery offers its guests the choice of Japanese sweets, fish-shaped waffles, and macha-latte for tea lovers. Made from traditional green tea powder, this refreshing drink has an incredibly soft and tender skim of recognizable mint color.

Silent Tea Room

Cafe, Tea Room, Asian, European, Tea

Silent Tea Room is a truly surreal place and it certainly belongs in St Petersburg. They may not have the widest choice of teas, compared to other tea rooms on this list, but they are definitely the most mind-opening space of all, thanks to the fluorescent paintings on the walls that become “alive” in the dark. During the evenings, Silent Tea Room organizes tea ceremonies and cinema screenings.

Rubai

Cafe, Tea Room, Asian, European, Tea

This tea-and-coffee house is a perfect place for connoisseurs of both beverages. The menu was created by a discerning chef from Sri-Lanka who considered the fine elements of tea and coffee, matching special dishes with each drink’s flavor. Rubai offers over 50 tea varieties, hailing from all parts of the world, from Japan to Latin America. You can also get an express tea ceremony to make sure the tea is properly brewed. The ceremony only takes 15 minutes, which is perfect for a busy city schedule.
