The city of Sochi, located in Krasnodarskiy Kray (southern Russia), is considered to be one of the most popular places for winter sports. This city especially lived up to this reputation after the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. From October to April, Sochi is perfectly suited for winter sport experiences (especially at mountain resorts like Rosa Khutor). Go skiing and snowboarding, book yourself an ice skating lesson or play hockey, there is always something to keep you on your feet. Here are a few winter sports activities you can enjoy in Sochi.

Skiing

Russians love skiing, and visiting a local mountain resort in Sochi is a compulsory winter tradition for many. Here you can find many skiing schools and campuses, rent special equipment, book a private lesson with a professional and enjoy the mountain views as you zip down the powdery slopes. One of the most beloved spots for skiing is located in Gorky. It’s easy to access from Sochi and guarantees a wonderful experience.

Snowboarding

Rosa Khutor Resort, located in Sochi’s Adler district, provides guests an opportunity to choose the best spots for their extreme ride. You can also rent equipment and book private lessons with pro-snowboarders. You will find many snowboarding equipment shops in the heart of Sochi as well, so save some time to do a little shopping.

Figure and Ice-Skating

Figure and ice-skating are probably two of the most fun things to experience while visiting Russia. The city of Sochi offers many opportunities for private or group lessons, and public ice rinks located around the city are open daily. Entrance fees and rentals vary from rink to rink, but all are budget friendly.

Ice Hockey

One of the strongest and most successful hockey teams in the world hails from the Russian Federation. The city of Sochi is a perfect place for anyone who wants to know how to play hockey and take a couple of lessons. Every city district has its own hockey stadium open to visitors. We highly recommend seeing a game and taking a lesson.
