With its hectic pace, occasionally maddening traffic and hot summer days, Bucharest is sometimes best admired from above. Early in the morning, for lunch, at sundown or after dark, rooftops are some of the city’s most precious hidden treasures.

Nomad Skybar

Bar

Right in the heart of Bucharest’s Old Centre, the party hotspot of the city, Nomad Skybar offers great views and an unmistakably cool vibe. Here, the contemporary materials such as glass and steel and the bar’s spectacular retractable roof mix seamlessly with the building’s original features. The highlight? Try the cocktails, some of the best in town.

Upstairs Rooftop

Located nearby Calea Victoriei, Bucharest’s main artery lined with numerous museums and restaurants, Upstairs Rooftop exudes a relaxed vibe. Its interior, decorated with bright contrasting colours, has the potential to surprise due to the large murals painted on the walls. The highlight? The half-moon tip of the terrace, open year-round, where you can get some fresh air and an eyeful of this area of the city.

Deschis Gastrobar

Bar

Located on the edge of the city centre, Deschis Gastrobar is more than a bar. Alongside serving delicious food and a great selection of drinks, it welcomes the city’s creatives and facilitates the exchange of ideas by hosting workshops, screenings and talks with the purpose of building a creative community. The highlight? The early morning yoga sessions held on the rooftop on summer weekends.

Pura Vida Sky Bar

Hotel

Offering some of the best views over the Old Centre, and especially over the copper dome-shaped roof of the National Bank of Romania, Pura Vida Sky Bar sits on top of the hostel with the same name. Visit early in the morning or after dark for the best views and take in the multicultural vibe of the place while sipping some of their amazing cocktails. The highlight? The cosmopolitan crowds it attracts everyday.

Linea/Closer to the Moon

Located on the edge of the Old Centre, this is the best rooftop in town where, drink in hand, you can attempt to and escape gravity by getting closer to the moon. Their cocktails are excellent, so better not head over there on weekdays, unless you’re planning to make an evening out of it. The highlight? The views over the House of Parliament, the colossus that dominates Bucharest’s skyline.

Silk Panoramic

Restaurant

Enjoying a privileged position in the very heart of the city, Silk Panoramic offers great views over the area surrounding Universitatii Square, and particularly over the Colțea Hopital, one of the city’s most beautiful buildings. The highlight? The lovely desserts available, because nothing beats admiring the views while delighting in a tiramisu.

SkyBar Dorobanți

One of the first rooftops to open in the city, SkyBar Dorobanți is located in the trendy neighbourhood of the same name. Boasting an aesthetic that can best be described as stylish and futuristic, a visit here can be the perfect way to kickstart a night on the town. The highlight? The ‘river’ that flows just beneath your feet!
