Dubbed Romania’s City of Flowers for its beautiful parks, Timișoara is centred around the Old Town – called Cetate (meaning fortress) – while the neatly arranged riverbanks of Bega are a delight to stroll along, enjoying drinks at one of the waterfront terraces. Stunning Habsburg architecture graces many neighbourhoods, so wherever you choose to stay in Timișoara, you have interesting sights within easy reach.

Hotel Savoy is a relaxed lodging with a bar and restaurant overlooking Alpinet Park on the banks of the Bega, just across the bridge from the city centre. It’s a casual place to stay with Modernist facades typical of the interwar period. Unassuming rooms are spacious and neutral in design, swathed in shades of beige and light brown. When it comes to dinner, expect a modern setup with western-style service. Among the Romanian traditional dishes, mici (spicy grilled snacks) are menu staples.
