Stay in the heart of Transylvania at these top hotels in Târgu Mures, Romania’s lesser-known gem.

Sat on the bank of the Mures river, surrounded by hills, the historic city of Târgu Mures is often underestimated. For many, it’s a stopping point between larger cities, like Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca, but look closer and you’ll begin to recognise the hidden beauty of the city. As well as its varied architecture, Târgu Mures is home to the ornate Palace of Culture and the second largest zoo in Romania. Here’s where to stay while you’re in town.
