Białowieża is one of the easternmost villages in all of Poland and acts as a gateway to two major places. Firstly, the stunning Białowieża National Park, which is a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site and often cited as ‘Europe’s last primeval forest’. Secondly, the village is a mere 1.5 kilometres from the Belarus border and makes for a welcome first stop-off point in Poland for overland tourists. Biały Domek is one of the best budget options in Białowieża. It translates into English as ‘White House’ and is a delightful family-run guest house with a garden. The location is on Białowieża’s main street, Stoczek, which means it is only a short walk to the National Park entrance, and even closer to the bus stop that has direct buses to Warsaw, Ciechanowiec and cross-border options to Belarus. The accommodation is basic and cheap. It is a tranquil and quiet guest house run by Zbigniew and Joanna, a local couple. Breakfast is available, and towels and bedding are provided.

There is room for up to 60 guests at Pensjonat UNIKAT, which is a compact guest house situated on Stoczek Street in the centre of Białowieża that is just 300 metres from the public entrance to Bialowieza National Park. Pensjonat UNIKAT is set in a private garden and courtyard area, consisting of three separate buildings all typical of the region and designed in a classic traditional wooden style. To complement this, many of the rooms are also decorated with the forest in mind, in a hunting style. The venue provides relaxation and tranquility in nature. The guest house has a restaurant that serves local beer on tap and in bottles, as well as lots of tasty Polish specialities including pierogi (fresh dumplings) and bigos (hunter’s stew). There is a sauna on-site, a children’s play area and free Wi-Fi.
