Norway’s second largest city knows its fashion. With a tight-knit creative community, a burgeoning fashion blogging scene, and a determination to not let all that rain cramp its style, Bergen’s boutiques act as ambassadors for the city’s unique style identity. Here are some of them you absolutely must visit.

Norwegian Rain

Ten years ago, Alexander Helle (Creative Director & Manager) and T-Michael (Bespoke Tailor/Designer) joined forces to solve a problem: how do you dress for the always rainy weather in Bergen, while remaining stylish? Fast forward to today, and the dynamic duo has received numerous awards for their waterproof outerwear and opened stores in Oslo and London, as well as a showroom in Paris. At their flagship in Bergen, you will find pieces that are elegant and timeless – and will keep you dry from the rain.

T-Michael is doing so many things, it’s difficult to pin it all down in one sentence. A tailor/designer/artist (who occasionally dabbles in filmmaking), T-Michael likes to blur the lines between bespoke tailoring and ready-to-wear items. When not working on Norwegian Rain with Alexander Helle, T-Michael draws inspiration for his own menswear line from various sartorial traditions; only recently he collaborated with established kimono shop, Y. & Sons, to re-imagine the kimono. He spends his time between his concept stores in Oslo (inside Paleet) and London, and his flagship store in Bergen, which also houses Norwegian Rain. When you visit, make sure to check his latest collection, T-Leather Bags.

Located in the heart of Bergen, Regn was started in 2015 by four friends who wanted to create a concept store that would exude authentic Scandinavian vibes. Carefully curated brands range from Scandinavian classics like Filippa K, Samsøe Samsøe and MOSS Copenhagen, to well-known yet edgy brands like Asics and Puma. Regn also carries beauty and wellness brands, as well as interior design items – one cannot be a true Scandinavian without the latter.

Fresh Pepper has two locations in Bergen; one in Strandgaten and one in Christiesgate. In both, you will find their unique mix of daily essentials along with casual tailoring and forward-thinking designers like Comme des Garçons. Everything, from the crisp sneakers to the lush knitwear and deconstructed blazers is hand-picked, sleek and “lovingly understated”.

Lot333 carries an eclectic mix of designer and high-street brands. Everything here is crisp, sophisticated but also young and unisex enough to embody that elusive Scandinavian coolness. You’ll find Adidas and Nike sneakers, unisex jewelry, staple garments from brands like Norse Porjects Bleu de Paname and Woodwood, as well as British brand Laboratory perfumes.

At Twisted, you will find clothes that reside in the intersection of comme il faut and quirky. Think dresses with vintage-inspired flair, maximalistic patterns in pastel colors and shoes that, depending on how you style them, can look both preppy and grunge. There are Vivienne Westwood pieces and urban chic British brands, as well as a relaxed but contemporary selection for men.
