Due to the growing number of Japanese and Asian-fusion restaurants in the city it is relatively easy to find excellent sushi in Amsterdam. There’s even a Michelin starred Japanese restaurant in the city as well as many other high-end, mid-range and takeout spots that serve fresh, delicious sushi.

Vijf Nul Vijf

Vijf Nul Vijf has become a staple of Amsterdam-Oost’s culinary scene over the past few years and easily ranks among the best asian-fusion restaurants in the city. Their menu mainly revolves around classic street food from South-East Asia such as pork belly buns, tempura or torpedo prawns, but also includes many sushi dishes like maki and nigiri.

Yamazato

This authentic kaiseki restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in 2002 and is located on the ground floor of Hotel Okura in de Pijp. While sushi is an important part of Yamazato’s menu there are many other Japanese delicacies available inside that are all prepared in the restaurant’s open kitchen.

Japan Inn Sushi & Yakitori

This cosy spot near Liedseplein is one of the oldest Japanese restaurants in Amsterdam and has been serving sushi, sashimi and many other classic dishes since 1995. While there’s ample seating available inside the restaurant, Japan Inn also offers a takeout service.

Akitsu

Akitsu is an izakaya- style restaurant on Rozengracht that features classic tatami mats arranged around low tables. The restaurant’s menu includes many low-key Japanese dishes including ramen bowls and deep-fried meat as well as sushi.

Mr. Temaki

As its name suggests this catering company mainly gears its menu around temaki – a type of sushi roll that resembles a cone. Even though Mr. Temaki are yet to open a bricks-and-mortar restaurant, they run a stall inside a large food court in Amsterdam-West called de Foodhallen.

Tomo Sushi

As Tomo Sushi is located right in the centre of Amsterdam, on Reguliersdwarsstraat, it is within walking distance from many popular nighttime attractions including Rembrandtplein and Pathé Tuschinski. Aside from fresh sushi and sashimi the restaurant also serves many other popular Japanese dishes.

Mojo Japanese Kitchen

Mojo Japanese Kitchen offers guests an unlimited supply of fresh Japanese dishes for an affordable, set price. There are many authentic delicacies available at the restaurant including a wide variety of sushi, bento dishes, tempura and grilled meats or vegetables.

Besides serving an impressive variety of classic Japanese dishes, including several types of maki, Ku Kitchen & Bar also stocks a remarkable selection of imported sake and Japanese whiskeys. The restaurant is one of the best places in Amsterdam for late-night dinning and stays open past midnight every day of the week.
