Where to Eat Chinese Food in Amsterdam

There some pretty awesome Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam that range from modest, laid-back takeout joints to high-end establishments that serve refined dinner menus. Each of these eateries has its own distinctive charms and will almost certainly impress anyone looking for Chinese staples like dim sum, peking duck or wanton soup.

Oriental City

This multi-storey Cantonese restaurant lies around 100 metres away from Dam Square and looks over the northern section of Amsterdam’s canal belt. The restaurant opened over thirty years ago and has since become a household name in Amsterdam thanks to its impressive menu which includes a whole section dedicated to authentic dim sum.

Sea Palace

This floating Cantonese restaurant has been moored outside Amsterdam’s Centraal Station since 1984. Due to its stunning, pagoda-style design Sea Palace has essentially become a local landmark and stands alongside several other architectural gems including NEMO and Het Scheepvaarthuis. The restaurant seats over 600 people and serves many Cantonese staples.

New King

New King serves an impressive selection of Mandarin-style dishes ranging from stir-fried turbot to choi sam with tofu. The restaurant’s menu also features several Indonesian staples such as bami and nasi. Its location on Zeedijk means that New King is within walking distance from many of Amsterdam’s most iconic landmarks including Oude Kerk, Waterlooplein and Rembrandt House.

Dim Sum Now

This popular dim sum restaurant bases its menu around speciality dumplings that contain fresh, healthy ingredients. It is possible to order several different types of dim sum platters at Dim Sum Now and the restaurant even offers a special mix that’s tailored around parties. Everything available inside these ‘baskets of steamy goodness’ are available inside Dim Sum Now’s charming kitchen on Ferdinand Bolstraat or as takeout meals which are delivered by bike!

Hoi Tin

Hoi Tin serves many Chinese delicacies including several dishes that originated in Hong Kong’s new territories such as full-blown, 12-person poon choi. Aside from authentic meat, fish and vegetarian dishes Hoi Tin also makes its own pastries which are available from its onsite bakery.

Nam Kee

Nam Kee ranks among the oldest Chinese restaurants in the Netherlands and opened on Zeedijk over thirty years ago. The restaurant has since opened two other locations around Amsterdam on Gelderskade and Marie Heinekenplein. Each of these locations serves an impressive variety of popular Chinese dishes including crispy peking duck, wanton soup and fried shrimp.

FuLu Mandarijn Amsterdam

This three storey high Chinese restaurant bases its menu around Sichuan cuisine and serves many hot and spicy dishes that are commonly associated with this south-western region. The restaurant seats over 200 customers and offers special group menus that are perfect for parties or larger get togethers with friends.
