BIRD Rotterdam
This popular cultural centre features several projects including a restaurant and club. BIRD launched in 2011 and has since gained a large following due to its inclusive approach towards music, entertainment and gastronomy. While funk, soul and jazz play a large part on the venue’s program, it is not uncommon for BIRD to showcase talent from other more electronically-orientated genres such as HipHop or Techno.
Maassilo
This former grain silo looms over the southern banks of the river Maas and wouldn’t look out of place in Blade Runner or any other example of dystopian fiction. Although Maassilo appears strangely futuristic, it is actually over 100 years old and was once recognised as the largest grain storage facility in Europe. Since then the buildings been converted into an expansive cultural centre that houses four separate club venues.
Toffler
Toffler is located on the northern side of Rotterdam’s Cool district and was the first club in the world to feature an adjustable, hydraulic wall that allows its management to change the venue’s size from one night to the next. The club is well known within the international dance scene and regularly books leading acts from techno and house.
Club Vie
Club Vie edges onto the northern side of Willembrug in Rotterdam and features two, separate rooms that are designed to accommodate large scale parties. The club’s interior looks amazing and includes several awesome, overhead light installations. Club Vie’s weekly program generally focuses on house, techno, hiphop and RnB.
Rotown
Rotown ranks among the longest running music venues in Rotterdam and launched over 30 years ago. The club was founded by a local journalist called Fons Burger who wanted to create a space for popular music in Rotterdam. Today, Rotown organises live events throughout the week and also leaves space on its calendar for club nights and DJ sets.
NORA
As NORA feature three separate floors, it is possible for the club to throw several different parties during one night. The club organises a popular weekly event called Jimmy that takes place every Saturday as well as other nights that mainly revolve around HipHop, Latin music and EDM.
BAR
BAR resides inside a multi-purpose, modern building called Schieblock that lies roughly 200 metres away from Rotterdam’s Centraal Station. This bar, restaurant and club has a solid reputation within the Dutch underground music scene and has worked with many acclaimed EDM acts including Acid Arab, Young Marco and Legowelt. BAR also regularly collaborates with music festivals in Rotterdam such as Dekmantel and REC.
