Dutch Photographer Viviane Sassen's Ode to the Artist's Muse
The Dutch fashion and art photographer presents a follow up to her 2013 photo book, Roxane with a limited edition publication full of bold, zealous and scintillating images.
Just at home reevaluating the terrain of fashion photography with her campaigns for Bottega Veneta, Acne Studios and Phillip Lim, as she is working on contemporary art projects and exhibiting at MoMA and The Photographers’ Gallery, the Amsterdam-based photographer has compiled a stunning collection of photographs that explore femininity, sensuality and the role of the artist’s muse.
Sassen’s approach to photography is intuitive rather than guided by a conceptual agenda and the results are fun, frivolous and refreshing.
Her childhood was spent in Kenya and this has instilled a love of colour and nature. Collaborating with model Roxane, Sassen and muse explore the female form and the performative aspect of photography in Roxane II.
Produced by independent publishing house, Oodee in a limited run of 1,000, Roxane II features over 100 photographs that hover between sculptural abstractions and figurative sketches.
Here’s a sneak peek at this stunning photography book.
