Kaunas, the second-biggest city in Lithuania has a great deal to offer foodwise – if you only know where to go that is. Check out these fine places to have breakfast or brunch in the city.

1. Green Café

Green Café specializes in delicious coffee made from a variety of beans – they are the only roasters in the country who have the Ecological Coffee Certificate. It is one of the best places in Lithuania to have a coffee specially made by experienced baristas. The cafe is also famous for its pastries and cakes which are some of the best in the city. So, if you’re craving something sweet for your breakfast, there is nowhere better to go. The interiors are simple yet elegant and modern, and the atmosphere calm and relaxing. This place is perfect for studying, reading or watching the world go by.

2. Le Rouge

Le Rouge brasserie and café is a lovely French-themed restaurant situated in the heart of Kaunas. The menu includes a few truly French brunch options. These include the classic onion soup or the scrumptious chicken liver pâté served with a fresh baguette and blue onion jam. The cafe is cozy and elegantly decorated with some black-and-white photographs on the walls and French music playing in the background. During the warmer months, it also opens a lovely terrace outside. This is perfect for watching passers-by and admiring the historic beauty of the city’s Old Town.

This beautiful Italian restaurant has a stylish decor with white painted walls and quirky little bits and bobs scattered around on the shelves. There are also tables available outside in the summertime. Moreover, the restaurant offers an excellent brunch come lunch menu, including a platter of delicious antipasti, bruschetta, Nica salad and more. For a sweet treat, there’s also tiramisu and tasty gelato on offer.

4. Motiejaus kepyklėlė

This little bakery not only has some of the best coffee and pastries in town but is also well-loved for its breakfast and brunch menu. Whether it’s sweet or savory you are looking for, you’ll find it all here. One favorite is the omelet served with freshly baked bread. It comes with a choice of a variety of fillings. The bakery also has some very interesting pastry options, such as potato bread buns. Meanwhile, loyal patrons swear their cakes are to die for.

5. Diverso

This sophisticated restaurant, located on the ground floor of the Park Inn Hotel in Kaunas, is a perfect place for a hearty breakfast or a sumptuous lunch buffet. For early risers, it even offers the option to have an express breakfast starting at 4.30am. Diverso has exceptionally good food for decent prices and very friendly staff who are always happy to help. The restaurant’s interior is quite luxurious-looking, with glass walls and gold-and-white themed decor. Every dish is made to resemble a piece of art and the overall impression is that of a very expensive joint.
