Walking around Venice feels much like falling into a postcard – from the Venetian Gothic architecture to the picturesque canals – and accommodation can be just as spectacular. If you’re looking for the best places to stay in Venice, you’ve just found them.

With so many tourists flocking to the so-called Floating City, its native population has halved over the last 50 years to cater for travellers. This means competition for accommodation in Venice is fierce: there’s a wealth of options for both small and big budgets. But the very best places? Take note.

1. Rosa Salva Hotel

Budget Hotel, Hotel

This modern Venice hotel is located in the centre of the San Marco district, close to iconic sights like the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Square. Although Rosa Salva Hotel is slap-bang in one of the busiest parts of the city, its sound-proofed windows and shutters make it very much an oasis within the hubbub. Run by the local Rosa Salva family, who also own Venice’s most famous pastry shop next door, anything that they don’t know about the city isn’t worth knowing.

2. Aman Venice

Well, housed in the 16th-century Palazzo Papadopoli, this ultra decadent hotel features original frescoes by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, a Rococo ballroom, and a fusion of contemporary and classic decor. Discretion is the name of the game: there’s a hidden jetty entrance to ensure privacy. Regardless of your celebrity status, you’ll be made to feel like a movie star here.
