1. Gio Pizza

Restaurant, Italian

Pizza in Italy is a pretty traditional affair. There are standard toppings and you are not likely to see creative ingredients or choices beyond the standard tomato and cheese classic margherita. That is not the case at Gio Pizza. This very casual spot has imaginative choices like whole wheat, ginger crusts and giant family sized pizzas.

2. La Pizzetta d'Oro

Bakery, Pizzeria, Italian

This popular and economical place is always busy, so you may have to wait for your turn to order a pizzetta, or even better, an entire tray of them. Le Pizzetta d’Oro pizzas are folded into half moons making them perfect for a quick takeout meal. There are not tables here, but take a seat at one of the few benches nearby.

3. Da Rita

Restaurant, Italian

Located in the Quartu Sant’Elena, this pizzeria has options for gluten and lactose free pizza lovers on their menu. Extra care and attention is given for diners with food allergies here.

4. Pizzeria Flores

Restaurant, Pizzeria, Italian

If you can’t decide whether you feel like seafood or pizza for dinner, why choose? Pizzeria Flores in the historic center of Cagliari can top your pizza with lump crab meat, a mix of mussels, shrimp and clams or a dusting of bottarga. Your personal pie is then baked to perfection in a wood fired oven.

5. Pizzaria Nansen

Restaurant, Italian

Roman style pizza al taglio is Pizzaria Nansen’s signature. This means long slabs of a variety of pizzas all baked in an electric oven. You can mix and match the ones you like to make up a meal. They have a nice selection of beer here and there is even a dessert pizza with freshly baked dough slathered with Nutella.

6. Framento

Restaurant, Italian

Gourmet pizza has arrived in Cagliari and you will find it at Framento. Pierluigi Fais’s vision is executed with a slow rise dough that creates a pillowy and chewy crust. The topping are meticulously sourced and range from traditional tomatoes, anchovies and mozzarella to radicchio, honey and gorgonzola. In case you need proof, Framento has been awarded a prestigious 3 spoons by the gourmet guide Gambero Rosso.

7. Mercato di San Benedetto

Market, Italian

Spend a morning wandering the covered market stalls at the Mercato di San Benedetto, one of Europe’s largest and you are sure to work up an appetite.
