This luminous locale is just a few streets from Piazza di Spagna, meaning its clientele are posh and willing to splurge for a healthy meal. Open from breakfast until dinner, it’s a great spot for a breakfast smoothie, gourmet sandwich, salad entree or a freshly cut fruit platter – attractively served on ice. There are dozens of tables outside so it’s a perfect for people-watching on a sunny day and lingering over a meal while soaking in the atmosphere of one of Rome’s loveliest streets. As well as the address detailed below, they also have a branch in Piazza di sant’eustachio 54, Rome.

Fa-Bio

Sandwich Shop, Italian

This teeny eatery in Prati is a great bet for quick, healthy and inexpensive lunch near the Vatican Museums. You’ll find Rome’s tastiest salads, hearty sandwiches and an array of freshly pressed fruit and vegetable juices, all made right in front of you so you can customize everything as you wish. There are also some ready-made dishes like wraps and grain salads. Fa-Bio is a favorite watering hole for locals who work in the area, so the small space gets crowded at lunch. Arrive before 1pm to beat the rush or drop by around 2:30pm to snag one of the few stools in the place.

Vitaminas 24

Bistro, Cocktail Bar, Restaurant, Juice Bar, Vegan, Vegetarian, Brazilian

This colorful Brazilian bistro has a creative menu of tropical foods and ingredients that don’t crop up often in a city like Rome, that prides itself on sticking to classic recipes and serving traditional cuisine. Here you’ll find fruity puddings with açai and guarana, Brazilian cheese bread, veggie burgers and a wide array of drinks, including dozens of juices, smoothies and cocktails. Located in the hip Pigneto neighborhood, it attracts an alternative and largely vegetarian crowd.

Prati Urbani

Restaurant, Italian

Steps away from Piazza Cavour in Prati, Prati Urbani is a cool cafe-restaurant with fresh design and an interesting menu that offers something for everyone – whether you’re vegan, vegetarian or not. You’ll find modern takes on pasta dishes, such as beet gnocchi with a sweet gorgonzola cream sauce, as well as a variety of tartares, burgers and salads. Prati Urbani also has an extensive spread of cold-cuts and veggies that accompany your beverage of choice during aperitivo hour.

Il Margutta

Restaurant, Vegetarian

Il Margutta is the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Rome and continues to attract a crowd that wants to eat healthy, while indulging in a truly satisfying meal. Part restaurant, part art gallery, it displays contemporary paintings on its walls and takes pride in presenting its dishes in an equally artistic fashion. Il Margutta has a wonderful weekday lunch deal for €15 (the price rises to €25 on the weekends) where you can sample a variety of its tastiest dishes. In the evenings, it’s a nice place to meet with colleagues for dinner or host a party. The restaurant is large and has both indoor and outdoor seating.

Bar Due Fontane

Bar, Cafe, Smoothie Bar, Mediterranean, Italian

Located in the Flaminio district of northern Rome, Bar Due Fontane is a hidden gem in a largely residential neighborhood. This tiny cafe uses Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors to create delicious panini such as zaatar toast, a falafel sandwich with avocado or a croissant filled with feta, pesto and sun-dried tomatoes. There are also a number of prepared dishes for a quick take-away lunch. Open from 7am, it has fruity breakfasts and lots of smoothies, so it’s a great bet if you’re looking for a change from coffee and pastries.
