Chef Yujia Hu prepares traditional sushi by day but spends his off-hours creating “shoe-shi”—sushi shaped like athletic shoes, made from sashimi, seaweed, and rice.
Hu, an Italian-born Chinese sushi chef who works at Sakana Sushi in Milan, Italy, began posting his “shoe-shi” designs to Instagram 14 weeks ago. Since then, he’s created surprisingly realistic sushi replicas of Air Jordans, Vans, Adidas shower sandals, and even sneaks from the Supreme x Nike Air More Uptempo Collection.
Before the shoe designs, Hu focused on sculpting NBA players out of rice balls—think Michael Jordan and LeBron James—as well as pop culture icons like “Salt Bae.” We can’t wait to see what he does next.
