Wedged between Laugavegur, Reykjavík’s main shopping street, and the hip Skólavörðustígur, these apartments feature modern kitchens, open-plan living areas with flat-screen TVs, and luxurious bedding. Choose from studios or one-, two- and three-bedroom units, sleeping between two and eight guests. There’s a clean, airy feel, thanks to whitewashed walls and large windows, while the vibrant chairs and potted plants give it a homely atmosphere.
Svala comprises eight well-appointed apartments, each with a contemporary feel and private entrance in downtown Reykjavík. The penthouse apartment sleeps up to four and has a balcony with fabulous views over the city. All apartments, including the small studios, have smart kitchens, making self-catering a doddle. Linen and towels are provided.
Wood-clad walls, potted plants and pretty garden views are just some of the touches that make House of the Snowbird a real home from home. While the building dates back to 1898, built by the Icelandic poet Einar Ben, it’s now owned by an art-loving family – evident in the paintings, photographs and ceramics found throughout the property. Cook up a storm in the cute kitchen, or head out to one of the many nearby restaurants.
Ideal for everyone from families to couples, these apartments feature fully equipped kitchens, a garden with a children’s playground, a terrace and a superb location near the Hallgrímskirkja, a Lutheran church. There’s free wifi throughout, along with a dishwasher and onsite laundry facilities, perfect if you’re planning an extended stay in the city.
For groups of up to eight people, these apartments are comfortable and cosy. Think underfloor heating in the bathroom, as well as spacious living and dining areas. Bedrooms feature twin, queen- or king-size beds, topped with knitted throws to keep you extra toasty. Eat breakfast at the long wooden table together before heading out to explore the city’s local attractions, including the Culture House.
You’ll be well-positioned on Laugavegur if you choose to stay at the Ice Apartments Reykjavik. The complex comprises six superior and two larger luxurious apartments. The decor is traditional, with a muted colour palette of oatmeal and coffee. Families are well catered for here, too. You can pull out a sofa bed in the living room for children, while the main bedroom comes with two single beds. Some have balconies, and there’s also a wheelchair-accessible apartment.
Families will love this homely guesthouse, which has a deluxe family studio. It sleeps up to four guests on a king-size bed and queen-size sofa bed and features a lounge, bathroom and private entrance. Although all rooms types come with fully equipped kitchens, a continental breakfast is also available. The style has a boutique feel, with taupe and teal walls, gilded mirrors and L’Occitane bath products.
Nest is a collection of four apartments, conveniently located in the old Reykjavík centre, a short walk to the airport bus stop. Each one occupies a separate floor, but they all have different combinations of rooms. The largest, on the first floor, sleeps four people on a double bed and sofa bed. For the best view, book the loft apartment – it sleeps two and has a balcony overlooking Mount Esja.
This jolly, lemon-yellow building on a quiet corner in downtown Reykjavík houses three cosy self-catering studios, each sleeping between one and three guests. The interiors are clean and bright, with wood flooring, neutral walls and plenty of light. One has a private balcony, while the largest is a good choice for small families, complete with a pull-out sofa bed in the spacious living area.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.
Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
