If there is one thing you should know from the beginning, it’s that you should never underestimate Athens, or its various districts. Pagrati is one of them. A quiet yet dynamic inner neighborhood in Athens, it boasts many all-day cafeterias and restaurants but also has proper bars and clubs. Here is a selection of the top bars located in Pagrati, Athens.

Aerostato

Bar, Bistro, Greek

With ethnic and jazz tunes and a charming atmosphere, it is no wonder Aerostato has been around for years. Often serving as a meeting point and hangout spot thanks to its convenient location, neighborhood joint Aerostato is a quaint bistro-bar where one can enjoy coffees, light snacks and salads, and later in the evening refreshing cocktails. Don’t be surprised if you end up spending the whole day there – the no-fuss attitude definitely makes it ideal.

See You

Bar, Greek, Wine, Beer, Cocktails, Pub Grub

This small, cozy bar with yellow hues and wood accents has a slight feeling of nostalgia about it. See You is a humble bar where you can chat with your friends while listening to a carefully selected playlist approved by the DJ of the day (or rather of the night). Nothing fancy, nothing ostentatious, See You is the local option for when you want to change things up a little.

Kafé Arkouda

Coffee Shop, Coffee, Tea , Greek, Vegetarian

Café-bar Kafé Arkouda is a place where you can have your morning café, debate over the latest world news while listening to funky rock, pop and jazz melodies from the 1960s to now. Kafé Arkouda – or literally Brown Bear, a clever pun on the Greek word kaféwhich means brown – is a veteran in the bar scene in Pagrati, as ‘the Bear’ was brought to Athens by Giorgos and Eftymia more than 20 years ago from the slopes of Elati near Trikala. Needless to say the couple has interesting stories to tell and if you stay till late one night, you might get to hear one of them.

Small 8 is Athens’ answer to Berlin. Located in a quiet part of Pagrati, this minimalist, industrial-styled all-day bar is a warm and welcoming hangout spot. Ideal for coffee, tea or early drinks with friends or even alone, you can enjoy beautiful music ranging from rhythm’n’blues, jazz and funk, while gazing out of the big glass windows. Located opposite the recently opened Skrow Theater, Small 8’s fresh crowd includes artists and actors. Art and drinks together? What’s not to like?

Chelsea Hotel

Bar, Contemporary

This small yet lively bar located on the corner of Archimidou and Proklou streets is a favorite. Serving inexpensive drinks and local spirits (raki, ouzo) it gets so crowded that regulars simply sit or stand in the street. In other words, Chelsea is the place where you can people watch for hours and move seamlessly from coffee in the morning, to wine in the afternoon, to beer at night (or cocktails!).

Arbaroriza

Bar, Greek, Beer, Wine, Cocktails, Pub Grub

Located on Plastira square, Arbaroriza is a place that attracts crowds of all different ages. The balcony fills up quickly every night, even during the week, and you can hear the constant hum of voices over the music if you’re walking nearby. Open all day with coffee and warm beverages in the morning, the menu switches up and includes drinks and cocktails as well as warm dishes in the afternoon and evening.

The Barock Club

The Barock Club is a newcomer in the rock café scene. Covering all kinds of rock genres – from blues to indie and alternative to metal, without obsessing about labels – the Barock entertains, with a friendly atmosphere and DJ-approved playlists. The venue also hosts several events and DJs throughout the year. http://instagram.com/p/BGAnJQfNcon/?taken-at=601422351&hl=en

Bar, Wine, Beer, Cocktails, Pub Grub, Greek

With a vibrant hue of green, Mint is a tiny all-day bar where you can enjoy coffee and hot beverages in the morning and drinks and cocktails in the evening. At Mint, things are simple and honest. The cocktails are old school but made with expertise. At night, the DJ goes into freestyle mode and plays music according to the moment. The bar has a kitchen open pretty much all day, so you can even enjoy soup, savory and sweet pies and other light snacks.
