Make the eight-hour journey from Athens to the secluded island of Patmos, and you shan’t be disappointed. Read Culture Trip’s guide to enjoying Patmos in style.

Situated far away from the mainland, Patmos exists in its own kind of magical dreamscape. Cobbled streets wind through the main town, and the atmosphere is almost hedonistically tranquil. Every visitor feels as though they’ve uncovered a secret, guarding their find carefully. Such a mystical quality might well be attributed to John the Apostle, who reportedly received his vision of the apocalypse in Patmos and wrote the Book of Revelation. Or it may be the wild combination of nature, backpackers and decadence that fuses for a summer atmosphere unlike anywhere else. Regardless, you’re guaranteed to feel its special allure. Here’s what to wear while falling in love with Patmos.

What to wear on Patmos

Structured shirts
Crisp lines offer a timeless elegance that matches the general atmosphere. Covet clean, structured shirts to impress as you hang out in the evenings at Agia Levia, the island’s lively square. Try this version from MM6 for a statement twist.

The showcase shoe
Patmos attracts a glamorous crowd of artists and patrons who can’t get enough of the beautiful scenery. Though you won’t find yourself partying into the early hours, there’s plenty of socialising to be had at a more leisurely pace around Skala and in the main town. Stand out with statement flats, an easy way to impress without trying too hard.

For people-watching in the early evening and partying by night, Stoa Theo’s Bar is the best place to spend an evening in Patmos. The bar sits in the bustling main square and serves as one of the main hangouts for Patmos’ finest. Grab a seat outside, order one of their signature cocktails and see where the night leads you.

Lampi Fish Taverna

Restaurant, Greek

For authentic, local and delicious food on Patmos, head to the picturesque fish restaurant ‘Lampi’. Located on the water of Lampi Beach, the taverna serves fresh fish caught daily, as well as an excellent selection of vegetable-based dishes made from ingredients that are grown in their garden. The brightly coloured pebbles and soothing background of the sea coming onto the shore prove a heady combination for enjoying seasonal signatures such as the stuffed courgette flowers. Although a great (and popular) lunch spot, you can also while away a beautiful and slightly more secluded evening here.
