Undeniably one of the best attempts at NY-style pizzas in Athens, Crust, located on Protogenous Street in Psyrri, is an excellent place for pizza. Chef Stelios Valvis focuses on using the freshest Greek and Italian ingredients to offer quality pizzas. Take a slice to go, or if you are ravenous, order a whole pizza that you can enjoy on the premises. For entertainment while eating, head to the basement that the owners, who love music, have converted into an indie music stage.

Located in the northern suburb of Kifissia, Nolita is an Italian restaurant that looks nothing like the usual trattoria you might expect. Instead, you will find chic décor, sleek and elegant furnishings and an urban vibe. Perfect for a business meeting or a romantic dinner, Nolita features a full menu with a variety of dishes including salads, pasta, risotto, desserts and, of course, pizzas. Made by a real pizzaiolo, these are authentic, thin-crust, Italian pizzas that will make your heart melt and mouth water. Pair them with a delicious glass of wine, and your night is complete.

A small joint in Kolonaki, Impasto is an all-day place where you can enjoy thin-crust pizzas al taglio (by the cut) just like in Italy. Given the size of the portions, it allows you to have a small variety of toppings, making a visit here a feast for the eyes and the stomach. Impasto also features a selection of Italian light meal options such as tramezzini, panini and salads, along with a wine list starring several Italian labels. Perfect for a cool and casual lunch.

Cupola

Pizzeria, Restaurant, Italian

In the residential neighbourhood of Pangrati, Cupola is probably one of the purest Italian trattorias in Athens. Headed by Greek-Italian chef Stefano Rossi, Cupola is a brilliant attempt to reconcile the Greek audience with Italian cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh Italian ingredients. The Neapolitan-style pizzas, charred to perfection in a wood oven, are simply divine, while the homemade pasta dishes, grilled meat and fish will make you sing “La Dolce Vita” out loud.

Coupepe

Pizzeria, Restaurant, Italian

This one is for those who are not afraid to travel far for something great. Coupepe lies in Nea Penteli, a northeastern suburb of Athens. It’s farther from the city centre, but once you’ve taken a bite of their pizzas, you will understand why it deserves a place on this list. The menu features white pizzas (without tomato sauce) and tomato-based pizzas, topped with an arsenal of Italian products coming straight from Italy, including mozzarella di bufala and bresaola. They have also created a range of dessert pizzas, perfect for those with a sweet tooth. Add to this a well-stocked wine list and cocktail menu, and Coupepe is definitely worth the trouble.
