Kaufhaus des Westens, known as KaDeWe by locals, is Berlin’s most iconic department store. The largest of its kind in Europe, spanning over 60,000 sq. meters (645,835 sq. feet) across eight floors, the shop specializes in luxury and high-end goods. Bowie lovers might also remember the store’s mention in his classic song, Where Are We Now, which has perhaps contributed to its popularity, as many as 50,000 people visit KaDeWe each day. The concept store houses beautifully hand-crafted goods from brands like Tiedeken and Boessert/Schorn to name a few, as they are focused on highlighting the best of Berlin’s independent fashion design scene.
